The entry list for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour “Duel at the Dog 200” at New Hampshire’s Monadnock Speedway features all of the usual faces in mostly the usual places. Except for one, if you looked close enough.

At the start of 2022, it was announced that New Jersey’s Jimmy Blewett would be piloting the famous No. 7NY for Tommy Baldwin Jr. in a partial schedule. Mike Christopher Jr. would be the other driver behind the wheel, and he drove that car to victory lane at Jennerstown Speedway last month.

But at the start of May, Blewett announced that he would be missing the May 14 event at Long Island’s Riverhead Raceway due to a family emergency, and that six-time NWMT champion Doug Coby would drive the car in his absence. Coby drove the car to the win at Riverhead that night, and he filled in for Blewett again a week later at Lee USA Speedway (NH) where he would also score the victory.

Well now, Blewett and Coby are both on the entry list for this Saturday’s 200-lap showdown at Monadnock, and both are driving for Baldwin. Coby will be in the 7NY and Blewett will be driving a car with the No. 1 on the doors and roof. Blewett’s car is officially listed as owned by Beth Baldwin, the wife of Tommy Baldwin Jr.

“I’m not sure how it came about,” said Blewett when reached via text message on Tuesday evening. “It was on my schedule I have with him, but now it’s in the backup car. Doug is in the primary car, the one I drove in Florida.”

Blewett returned to racing earlier this month at his home track of Wall Stadium Speedway in New Jersey for the Garden State Classic where he finished 15th behind the wheel of a car owned by his family.

He explained that the family emergency in May was a health-related situation for his daughter, Kayla, and that she is now doing much better than a month ago.

“She is still doing follow-up visits, and so far everything has been good,” Blewett said. “Hopefully she continues in the right direction. It was very tough for us, but sometimes God has other plans in store for us.”

As far as this weekend’s race at the quarter-mile Monadnock Speedway is concerned, Blewett said Saturday will mark the first time he’s been teammates with Coby but he isn’t paying much attention to having a team car.

“We had two cars at Caraway (with Caleb Heady the other driver), but Tommy always comes prepared,” he said. “I’m going there to try to win, so as far as Doug, he’s just another competitor to me.”
