Everything You Need To Know About New Smyrna World Series
Stats, storylines, schedules and how to watch the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway.
The Event
The World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing is a nine-day event held at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Super Late Models, Pro Late Models, Tour-type Modifieds, Florida Modifieds, 602 Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Trucks, Bombers and Super Stocks all compete during the event. The season openers for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and ARCA Menards Series East will also be held during the event.
The inaugural World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing was held in 1968. This year's running is being billed as the 55th Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.
The Track
New Smyrna Speedway is a half-mile paved oval with 23 degrees of banking in the turns. The surface was last repaved in 2007.
In addition to hosting the WSoA, the track hosts NASCAR Advanced Auto Parts Weekly Racing throughout the year. The final event of the year is the prestigious Florida Governor's Cup 200 for Super Late Models.
The Format
Super Late Models, Pro Late Models and Tour-type Modified will qualify (time trials) on most nights during the event. After qualifying, there is an invert for each division of either zero, two, four, six or eight cars to set the feature lineup.
Feature distances vary each night, ranging anywhere from 35 to 100 laps.
Super Late Models: Friday (35), Saturday (OFF), Sunday (35), Monday (100), Tuesday (35), Wednesday (35), Thursday (35), Friday (OFF), Saturday (100)

Tour-type Modifieds: Monday (50), Tuesday (35), Wednesday (76), Thursday (35), Friday (100)
At the end of the week, a champion will be crowned in all three divisions listed above, as well as the Florida Modifieds.

Storylines
- Derek Griffith enters this year's event eyeing his third straight Super Late Model championship. One year ago, Griffith became the first back-to-back champion in the SLM division in over two decades.
- Like Griffith, "Big Money" Matt Hirschman will also be eyeing his third straight title in the Tour-type Modified division. Hirschman will also be looking to secure his fourth straight win in the biggest race of the week, the Richie Evans Memorial on Friday, February 18.
- For the first time ever, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will open its season at New Smyrna Speedway on Saturday, February 12.
- Since the inception of the Pro Late Model division in 2007 there has not been a repeat champion. That trend will likely continue in 2022 as no former champions are currently entered in the division.
- Although he's not on the official entry list, Super Late Model star Bubba Pollard is expected to compete in the Clyde Hart Memorial 100 on Monday, February 14 and the Orange Blossom 100 on Saturday, February 19. Pollard opened his 2022 season with a win in the Red Eye 50 at New Smyrna and followed it up by winning CRA SpeedFest last weekend.
- NASCAR Cup Series star Erik Jones is expected to race in the Super Late Model division when he doesn't have conflicts with his schedule at nearby Daytona International Speedway. Jones is no stranger to victory lane at New Smyrna, having won the 2011 Florida Governor's Cup; however, he's never won a race during the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.
- Justin Bonsignore enters the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season opener as the two-time defending champion. He'll start his journey towards a third straight championship and fourth overall at New Smyrna.
