The second running of the SMART Modified Tour’s “King of the Modifieds” at South Boston Speedway is just days away. The first edition proved to be unpredictable as a young gun upstaged the old guard to claim the crown and the throne. What will happen this year? Well, we’re all going to find out together. But first, we want to make sure you race fans are up to date on everything surrounding this event from the schedule to the entry list to the broadcast information.
What is the King of the Modifieds?
The King of the Modifieds is the biggest race on the SMART Modified Tour’s calendar. Now in its second year, the race has quickly secured its place not only on the SMART Modified Tour’s calendar, but in Modified racing as a whole. This year’s race is a 125-lap showdown featuring some of the best drivers Modified racing has to offer and is run in tribute to Richie Evans and Ray Hendrick, the kings of Modified racing in the north and south.
What Divisions Will Be Part of The King of the Modifieds Event?
The King of the Modifieds event at South Boston Speedway will see three different divisions participating in four feature races. The SMART Modified Tour’s Modifieds will be the headline division and will race for 125 laps to see who will be crowned the king. The Super Stocks will also run a 50-lap feature while the Late Model Stock Cars, the normal headlining division at South Boston, will run two 50-lap features.
How Can I Watch the King of the Modifieds?
The King of the Modifieds will be broadcast live on FloRacing to all FloRacing subscribers. Every SMART Modified Tour event all season long can also be seen live on FloRacing, along with every event from South Boston Speedway.

Who is Racing in the King of the Modifieds?
More than 30 drivers and teams are heading to South Boston Speedway this weekend looking to dethrone last year's king and eventual series champion, Luke Baldwin. Baldwin, who is set to make his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut in two weeks at Martinsville Speedway, headlines the entry list as the current "King of the Modifieds." The win came as a bit of a shock a year ago, but it was the first of multiple victories that led to the championship for Baldwin.
Baldwin held off one of the all-time greats in Modified racing, Matt Hirschman, to score the victory. Hirschman is back on the entry list this year looking to get a bit of redemption.
Also entered is two-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Ron Silk. The Norwalk, Connecticut driver and his Haydt Yannone Racing team scaled back their NWMT efforts this season, which allowed them to pick and choose more big races across other series, like this year's King of the Modifieds.
That's just a quick snippet of the entry list. Fans can see the entire entry list below.
