The 2024 World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway is right around the corner. Nine nights of racing in a row, right in the shadow of the Daytona International Speedway. We want to make sure fans are caught up on all the information before racing begins on Friday, February 9, so here is everything that you need to know.
When Is The 2024 World Series of Asphalt?
The 2024 World Series of Asphalt will take place over nine consecutive nights, beginning on Friday, February 9, and ending on Saturday, February 17, the night before the Daytona 500.
What Divisions Are Racing During The World Series Of Asphalt?
The World Series of Asphalt is headlined by the Tour-type Modifieds and the Super Late Model divisions. 602 Modifieds and Pro Late Models are direct supporting divisions, plus a host of local divisions such as Sportsman, Bombers, Super Stocks, Pro Trucks, Florida Modifieds, and more.
Also in action during the World Series of Asphalt are the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the ASA STARS National Tour, both of which kick off their respective seasons at New Smyrna Speedway. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event will take place on Saturday, February 10, while the ASA STARS National Tour’s Clyde Hart Memorial 200 will be held on Tuesday, February 13.
What Big Name Drivers Are Competing At The World Series of Asphalt?
NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Preece will be in competition on select nights during this year’s World Series of Asphalt, including Saturday’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event. Former Daytona 500 champion Ryan Newman is also expected to be in action during the NWMT opener as well. Multi-time NWMT champions, Justin Bonsignore, Doug Coby, and Ron Silk will also be racing the NWMT event, as well as multi-time World Series of Asphalt champion, “Big Money” Matt Hirschman. The entire entry list for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event is expected to be released soon.
On the Late Model side of things, former World Series champion Derek Griffith is making the trip south from Hudson, New Hampshire once again. Kevin Harvick Incorporated will have a Super Late Model in action with budding star William Sawalich behind the wheel. Donnie Wilson Motorsports is bringing a few cars once again with Brent Crews, Giovanni Ruggiero and two-time Oxford 250 winner Cole Butcher behind the wheel on most nights.
CARS Tour Pro Late Model Rookie of the Year winner Katie Hettinger returns to the Pro Late Model division this year. Hettinger became the first woman to win a Pro Late Model race during the World Series just one year ago. Speaking of women, ARCA Menards Series driver Toni Breidinger returns to the Pro Late Model division once again, and Isabella Robusto makes her racing return at the World Series after battling post-concussion symptoms for much of the 2023 season.
Tuesday’s Clyde Hart Memorial for the ASA STARS National Tour will see a bunch of big-name drivers like Ty Majeski, Bubba Pollard, Stephen Nasse, Butcher and Ruggiero, and the return of Jeff Choquette just to name a few. What Are The Most Important Races During The World Series?
The entire World Series of Asphalt is important as a champion is crowned for each division before the nine nights over, but there are multiple crown jewel races held throughout those nine nights as well.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour 200 has quickly become a crown jewel of the week, even in just its third year. That race joins the John Blewett III Memorial 76 held on Wednesday every year and the Richie Evans Memorial 100 held on Friday every year as the three crown jewels for the Tour-type Modifieds.
For the Super Late Models, there are two crown jewels throughout the week. The first is the Clyde Hart Memorial 200, which will serve as the season-opener for the ASA STARS National Tour for the first time this year. The Clyde Hart Memorial used to be held during the summer, but it was moved to the World Series in 2023 as a 100-lapper and now will be 200 laps this year. That event joins the Orange Blossom 100, the finale for the Super Late Models, as the biggest events of the week for the Supers.
Pro Late Models will have a crown jewel of their own again this year with the Hart to Heart 100 on Friday, February 16.
