Big Field Of Monaco Modifieds Expected For Fall Final At Stafford
More than 40 Monaco Modifieds are expected for the rescheduled NAPA Fall Final at Stafford Motor Speedway.
The 2023 season for Stafford Motor Speedway and the Monaco Modifieds Tri-Track Series will come to their long-awaited conclusions Saturday night when the rescheduled NAPA Fall Final finally gets underway. More than 40 cars are expected to make the trip to the famous Connecticut half-mile.
The Fall Final was originally supposed to run over a month ago, but Mother Nature had other plans. The race has been rescheduled multiple times and was even supposed to be the penultimate Monaco Modifieds race instead of the finale. But the weather finally looks like it’s going to cooperate on Saturday night.
The massive entry list is headlined by Matt Hirschman, who leads the Monaco Modifieds points standings entering the final race of the year. “Big Money” now leads by 29 points over Matt Swanson following his victory last weekend at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. Hirschman has now won two Monaco Modifieds races in a row and is looking to pull off the three-peat before the season concludes. Hirschman will be pulling double-duty this weekend as he will also be at the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour finale on Thursday night at Martinsville Speedway.
Hirschman won’t be the only driver pulling the Martinsville/Stafford double this weekend. Riverhead, New York’s Eric Goodale is another driver who will be making the same trip. Goodale went to victory lane at Stafford back in June in one of the 80-lap Open Modified shows. Goodale is a past Fall Final winner as well, scoring the victory back in September of 2017.
Perhaps one of the biggest names pulling the Martinsville/Stafford double this weekend is Ron Silk, who heads to Martinsville with a chance to score his second career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship. Silk, who won the title back in 2011, leads Justin Bonsignore by 13 points entering Thursday’s finale. Silk is also the defending winner of the Fall Final at Stafford and he won this year’s Spring Sizzler to kick off the season back in May.
Local hero Woody Pitkat struggled all day at Waterford last Sunday and finished 20th in the 100-lap race. But now Pitkat goes back to his home track looking for another victory to close out the season. Pitkat has won each of the last two Open Modified races at Stafford. Normally Pitkat, a hockey goalie, is trying to prevent hat tricks, but he would be happy to score one this weekend.
Glen Reen is back in Dan Avery’s No. 10A machine looking for his second Open Modified victory of the season. Reen dominated the second half of the 81-lap race back in May to take the win over Teddy Hodgdon and Marcello Rufrano, both of whom are also entered in Saturday’s Fall Final.
Saturday’s NAPA Fall Final is one of three Modified races taking place on FloRacing this weekend, including the season finale for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour at Martinsville Speedway on Thursday night and the season finale for the SMART Modified Tour at Orange County Speedway on Saturday night. FloRacing is the home of the Modifieds and the only way to see it all is to become a subscriber by clicking here.
