Ron Silk Extends NASCAR Modified Tour Points Lead With Oswego Victory
Results, highlights, and more from the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour "Toyota Mod Classic 150" at Oswego Speedway.
When the season ends on October 26 and a champion is crowned at Martinsville Speedway, there's a good chance we'll be looking back on this night, September 2, as the turning point in the 2023 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season. Ron Silk scored his fourth win of the season, and extended his points lead in a big way over Justin Bonsignore who finished 15th after a crash.
Silk, the 2011 NWMT champion, entered the night with a one-point lead over the three-time champion Bonsignore. That lead is growing in a big way thanks to a Lap 129 crash for Bonsignore.
Bonsignore was underneath Tommy Catalano in a battle for the second-place position as they ran up on the slower car of Gary McDonald. With nowhere to go, Bonsignore ran right into the back of McDonald, then crashed hard into the styrofoam blocks along with Catalano. Bonsignore suffered heavy damage and his night came to an abrupt end.
Silk, meanwhile, had to fend off Austin Beers on a green-white-checkered finish to score the victory. Bobby Santos III, Anthony Sesely, and Kyle Bonsignore completed the top five.
