For the first time in 2025, the CARS Tour is in action in back-to-back weeks. Just seven days removed from last weekend’s race at Orange County Speedway, the Tour will be back in action on Saturday night at Altamahaw, North Carolina’s Ace Speedway for another doubleheader for the Late Model Stock Cars and the Pro Late Models.
Headlining the entry list is the current points leader for the Late Model Stock Cars, and that is Connor Hall. Hall is looking to rebound after an early spin and a subpar finish at Orange County last weekend. Hall finished 18th and let the points battle tighten back up. He now leads Kade Brown by just nine points heading into this weekend’s race. Hall has never won at Ace Speedway in his six prior CARS Tour starts. He has top fives in three of those races, including last season, but he also has finishes of 25th and 12th. That said, Hall is now racing for JR Motorsports, the team that has won three of the last four races at Ace with Carson Kvapil, Hall’s predecessor.
The new second-place man in points following his runner-up finish at Orange County is Kade Brown. The Fulford, Texas driver trails Hall by just nine points, but he’s heading to a track that he struggled at in his only two starts last season. Brown had finishes of 21st and 12th last season with both races ending prematurely due to mechanical problems. However, especially in May, Brown was not running particularly well before the issues arose. But, that was with a different team. Since Brown has been driving the R&S Race Cars house car, his performances so far this year have been very different for the good.
As we continue down the standings we now have a tie for third between Landen Lewis and Ronnie Bassett Jr., who both trail Hall by 18 points.
We’ll start with Lewis, who is in his first full CARS Tour season with Kevin Harvick Inc. The Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina native has had a knack for passing cars this season, which is good considering he’s only qualified in the top 20 once in four races. Lewis has made 89 passes for position through four races, which has him tied with Chad McCumbee for the lead in the FloRacing Field Master Award standings. It’s also helped him climb the series points standings, because he only has one finish outside the top 10, and that was an 11th-place run at New River All-American Speedway. With finishes of fifth, fourth, and ninth since, Lewis and his KHI team have started to find their consistent footing.
Now we move on to Bassett, who, aside from getting caught up in a crash on a late restart at Cordele, has been remarkably consistent and fast. Bassett has finishes of third, sixth, 14th, and fifth through four races. He has been able to pass cars when needed, which is why he’s second in FloRacing Field Master Award standings with 87 passes for position. But he’s struggled a bit at Ace Speedway historically. In his four starts he has two sixth-place finishes, and then finishes of 19th and 12th. And he’s yet to qualify inside the top 10 here.
Rounding out the top five in points now is the “Claremont Kid,” Landon Huffman. Huffman’s season started off a bit on the rocky side. He qualified 23rd and finished 15th at New River. He then qualified third and finished 12th at Wake County after being penalized late for his role in Ryan Millington’s spin. But, Huffman and his Carroll Speedshop team found speed that night. Huffman ran no worse than third all race until he was penalized. They then backed that race up with a third-place finish at Cordele, and then went to Orange County last week and finished seventh after starting 16th. Huffman has yet to have much success at Ace, as he has a best finish of eighth in three starts there, but something is starting to feel different for him this season. After last week’s race at Orange County, Huffman now sits 27 points behind Hall.
As of Tuesday morning, 24 cars were on the Late Model Stock Car entry list with eight cars on the Pro Late Model entry list. Both entry lists are expected to grow before Saturday’s race.
