In a thrilling addition to the 2025 short track racing calendar, FatHead Racing is excited to announce that NASCAR Cup Series driver Josh Berry will pilot the No. 21 Ford FHR Pro Late Model in a pair of prestigious events this May.
Berry, known for his grassroots racing roots and rise through the ranks to NASCAR’s top level, will join the FHR squad for a special appearance in the CARS Tour Pro Late Model event at North Wilkesboro Speedway on Thursday, May 15th, followed by a return to his hometown track — the legendary Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway — on Thursday, May 29th for the Battle of Broadway 150.
The opportunity came together as Berry finalized plans for NASCAR’s All-Star weekend, in which he is now locked into. With the CARS Tour race at North Wilkesboro falling just ahead of the NASCAR All-Star Race, it presented a unique chance for the North Carolina-based FatHead Racing team and the Tennessee native to team up.
“We’re already locked into the All-Star Race that weekend, so it really made sense to jump in and run the Pro Late Model event with FatHead Racing,” said Berry. “It gives me a chance to get some additional laps at Wilkesboro and work with a great group of racers.”
Berry’s return to Nashville is especially meaningful. A native of Hendersonville, Tennessee, he cut his teeth in grassroots racing on the quarter-mile at the Fairgrounds in Legend Cars before moving up through the ranks. His passion for the historic speedway is well documented.
“Nashville is my home track — it’s where I grew up racing,” Berry shared. “Every time I have a chance to go back and race there, I try to make it happen. I love being able to support the track, the people, and the racing community in that area. The competition is always tough, but there’s something special about racing where it all started for me.”
Berry already earned a top-five finish at the Fairgrounds last season, and with the Battle of Broadway 150 marking one of the marquee Pro Late Model events of the year, the No. 21 team is preparing for another strong run.
“The main goal with these races is pretty simple — go out, compete hard, and have some fun along the way,” said Berry. “That’s what I love about short track racing. It’s pure. You show up, put the work in, and let the racing do the talking.”
For FatHead Racing, bringing Berry on board represents another step in its ongoing mission to develop elite-level talent and compete on the biggest stages in short track racing. Team owner Jamie Yelton, a well-respected figure in the sport, is looking forward to working with Berry — both as a competitor and as a mentor to the younger drivers within the FHR development pipeline.
“Josh is the kind of racer who just gets it,” said Yelton. “He’s humble, he’s hardworking, and he brings so much knowledge and experience to the table. I’ve known him for a long time and have always had a lot of respect for how he carries himself, both on and off the track,” he continues. “We’re proud to have him in our car and part of the FatHead family, even if it’s just for a couple of events.”
Yelton also emphasized the team’s long-standing success at Nashville and the significance of returning there with a driver like Berry.
“We’ve had a lot of success at Nashville over the years with a number of talented drivers,” Yelton added. “To be able to go back there with someone like Josh — who knows the track and who has that deep connection to the area — it’s something we’re all really excited about. We’re looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish together.”
Opportunities are still available for marketing partners to be a part of FHR’s foray to both iconic short tracks - a great opportunity those looking to get involved in grassroots motorsports
For fans and partners alike, Berry’s return to Pro Late Model competition — in a FatHead Racing entry — is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated storylines of the spring short track season.
