2024 Snowball Derby Schedule Today: Here's What To Know About Friday

The annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida, has become more than just an intense one-day race. It’s now a whole experience that gives fans the chance to see all kinds of action and different vehicles over four exciting days.

And, for the first time in the event’s nearly six decades of history, FloRacing subscribers will get to see things unfold in the Florida Panhandle.

Everything kicked off Tuesday with the 2024 FloRacing Snowball Derby Kickoff Show

Before the 57th edition of the 300-lap Snowball Derby on Sunday, there will be a lot of practice opportunities for the drivers, as well as the chance for the best in Pro Truck, Sportsman, Pure Stock, Modified and more to show their stuff on one of the sport’s most iconic tracks.

The Snowball Derby tradition began at Five Flags Speedway in 1968 and has grown from a 100-lap affair to the 300-lap battle for Super Late Model competitors we know today. The track itself opened in 1953.

When the weekend concludes, one skilled and fortunate driver will take home $50,000 and the coveted Tom Dawson Trophy. But there will be a lot more memories to make in Pensacola before the trophy is hoisted.

Here’s the schedule for Friday, December 6 of Derby Week at Five Flags Speedway:

What Kind Of Cars Race In The Snowball Derby?

The Snowball Derby is a 300-lap race contested by Super Late Models.

Without getting too technical, Super Late Models are the Late Models most frequently raced around North America and are raced at other big events, such as the Winchester 400, All-American 400, Oxford 250 and the Battle at Berlin.

Pro Late Models also race during Snowball Derby week, in the Snowflake 100, which traditional is contested on Saturday night each year, while the Snowball Derby takes place Sunday.

Pro Late Models are nearly identical to Super Late Models, except under the hood, as they have less horsepower.

Who Is Racing In The Snowball Derby?

The Snowball Derby attracts attention from racers all over North America, from the weekly Super Late Model ranks, all the way up to the NASCAR Cup Series.

With an entry list consisting of more than 50 cars, it’s impossible to spotlight every driver, but here are a few of the more noteworthy names:

NASCAR Cup Series driver, and winner of the 51st Snowball Derby, Noah Gragson, is returning to Five Flags in search of his second Tom Dawson Trophy.

Derek Thorn of Bakersfield, California, is back again in search of his second victory (2022), while Ty Majeski of Seymour, Wisconsin, is looking to join rarified air by winning his third Snowball Derby and second in a row (2020, 2023).

Meanwhile, Super Late Model superstars Bubba Pollard of Senoia, Georgia, and rival Stephen Nasse of Pinellas Park, Florida, will arrive at Five Flags Speedway looking to win for the first time.
