WSOPM Champ Spencer Hyde Set To Match Race Todd Paton In Top Fuel Dragster

Drag Illustrated’s World Series of Pro Mod Champion Spencer Hyde finds himself in the cockpit of 11,000 horsepower, Nitro burning, Fire breathing,  top fuel dragster again this weekend in a match race at Lancaster Dragway for their annual Nitro Night. Team owner, Todd Paton and Hyde will face off in a two run match race Friday Night at the WDRA event to kick off 'Nitro Night' on the east coast.

"I'm looking forward to returning to one of the wildest 1/8 mile match races in North America", said Paton. "Running a Top Fuel dragster down historic Lancaster Dragway is perhaps one of the greatest challenges and biggest thrills for a driver. I ran a 3.30 at 233 mph a few years ago that broke the 20-year old track record held by Shirley Muldowney. That record got stolen from me last year by Cameron Ferre driving our second dragster. I’m hoping to take it back this coming weekend when I race Spencer (Hyde) in our matching Paton Racing Top Fuel dragsters."

Although you may know Spencer from his much celebrated World Series of Pro Mod Championship, Paton and Hyde have been Top Fuel racing together for three seasons now. Their most recent endeavor was when Hyde ran the Elite Motorsports sponsored Paton Racing Top Fuel Dragster at the NHRA World Finals in Pomona, CA last November where they had one of the most aggressive explosions the NHRA has ever seen.

"I love Pro Mod racing for so many reasons, but this Top Fuel Dragster is a different animal and I absolutely love driving it whenever I get the chance", said Hyde.

"Sadly, I've never been to Lancaster Dragway, although I’ve heard great things about it. Anytime you get the call to jump in and drive a fuel car, it’s pretty exciting. I’m looking forward to working with the Paton Racing Team again as they are such a great group of people, and it has that family feel just like our Pro Mod team does. I think I’m 3 and 1 against Todd, so I’d love to keep that winning record going!"

Hyde and Paton will face off twice this Friday evening during the WDRA event at Lancaster for bragging rights and to try to reclaim the track record away from Cameron Ferré who set it last year running with Paton Racing as well.
