It feels like just yesterday we were all watching Kade Brown take the checkered flag in November’s South Carolina 400 at Florence Motor Speedway, but already it’s time to head back to Florence to break the ice on another new season of Late Model Stock Car racing in the southeast. We want our fans to be caught up before a race, so here is everything you need to know for the 9th Annual IceBreaker 150 at Florence Motor Speedway.

Is Dale Earnhardt Jr. Racing In The IceBreaker?

The 9th Annual IceBreaker at Florence Motor Speedway will take place on Saturday, February 10, and once again it is attracting some of the biggest stars in stock car racing, including NASCAR Hall of Famer, Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Next week’s 125-lap race will be the second year in a row that Earnhardt Jr. has competed in the IceBreaker at Florence. The two-time Daytona 500 champion finished 16th in last year’s IceBreaker, which was a rough day for he and his fellow JR Motorsports driver, Carson Kvapil. Kvapil, now a two-time CARS Tour champion, finished two spots behind Earnhardt in 18th.

This year’s IceBreaker marks the fifth time that Earnhardt Jr. has raced at Florence since November of 2022. Earnhardt Jr. has now run two South Carolina 400s, the 2023 IceBreaker, and the inaugural “Locked-In 150” back in August.

Where Did Dale Earnhardt Jr. Finish In His Last Race At Florence?

As we mentioned above, next week’s race is the fifth time Earnhardt Jr. has competed at Florence Motor Speedway dating back to 2022’s South Carolina 400. His most recent race at Florence was the 2023 South Carolina 400. Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished eighth in that race.

IceBreaker Event History

Like nearly everything at Florence, the IceBreaker’s roots come from the now-defunct Myrtle Beach Speedway. The IceBreaker actually got its start at Myrtle Beach Speedway in 2016, which saw Tommy Lemons Jr. go to victory lane that first year. The IceBreaker was contested at Myrtle Beach Speedway every year from 2016 to 2020 when the track was closed for good later that year. Myrtle Beach native, Sam Yarbrough, scored the final IceBreaker victory at that legendary 5/8-mile race track.

Since 2021, Florence Motor Speedway has carried the torch for Myrtle Beach Speedway. The IceBreaker, which kicks off the racing season, and the South Carolina 400, which ends the season, have carried over from Myrtle Beach to Florence where the races are arguably bigger now than they’ve ever been.
