Results: Brenden Queen Back In CARS Tour Victory Lane At New River
Unofficial results, highlights, and more from the CARS Tour "Carolina 125" at New River All-American Speedway.
When there's a Late Model Stock Car race at an extremely abrasive race track, everyone knows Brenden "Butterbean" Queen will be one of the drivers fighting for the win at the end of it. He's proved that multiple times in CARS Tour competition this season, and Saturday night at Jacksonville, North Carolina's New River All-American Speedway was no different.
Queen drove to CARS Tour victory lane for the second time this season and the second time in his career by holding off Ronnie Bassett Jr. in an absolute thriller in the final laps.
Queen and Bassett both played the tire conservation game to perfection, and as a result both were fighting for the victory in the final laps.
The Chesapeake, Virginia native took the lead on a late-race restart on the outside of Conner Jones. While Queen drove by Jones on the outside, Bassett drove by Jones on the inside to move into second place.
Bassett got under Queen coming off of turn four with a few laps remaining, but struggled to get the grip he needed to stay there. He paced himself until the very last lap where he drove under Queen and into his driver's side door. The two drivers door-slammed and got sideways, but both were able to hang onto their machines. Queen was able to save his race car first and drive to the victory, his first since winning at North Wilkesboro Speedway in May earlier this year.
Jones got back by Bassett for the runner-up position as a result of Bassett's contact with Queen. Bassett rounded out the podium in third place while Mason Diaz and points leader Carson Kvapil completed the top five finishers.
Winning Quote From Brenden Queen
"I knew it was coming. They were just a little bit better than us at the end. We needed that caution, but then I was actually mad about that caution because I thought I was going to lose second. This team needed this. We've been second, like Lee (Pulliam, car owner) said I don't know how many times. We've let so many of these races slip away. I wasn't going to let them take it away from me that time. I wanted it bad. That had to be good for the fans. That was a bad-to-the-bone finish right there." - Brenden "Butterbean" Queen
