CARS Tour Heads Back To The Commonwealth To Take On Dominion Raceway
The CARS Tour Late Model Stock Cars are headed to Virginia's Dominion Raceway with 27 cars filing entries.
The CARS Tour Late Model Stock Cars are headed back to the Commonwealth of Virginia this Saturday, this time to take on the state-of-the-art facility that is the Dominion Raceway in Thornburg, Virginia. 27 cars have filed entries for Saturday’s CARS Tour 125 presented by NAPA Auto Parts.
Six drivers have taken the checkered flag in the six CARS Tour races held so far at the 4/10-mile Dominion Raceway dating back to 2017. Of those six drivers, only two of them are on the entry list for Saturday’s race.
The first of those two drivers is Jonathan Findley. The Bristow, Virginia native took the victory in 2020. He started 13th and quickly got to the lead, leading 49 laps that evening. Findley has made one start with the CARS Tour so far this season. That start came back at the season opener at Southern National Motorsports Park in March when he finished 21st, one lap down.
The only other previous CARS Tour winner at Dominion on Saturday’s entry list is also the most recent CARS Tour winner, and that is Connor Hall. The Hampton, Virginia driver is the defending CARS Tour winner at Dominion. Hall started fourth and led 47 laps on his way to victory lane last season. Hall is riding a wave of momentum following his home track victory at Langley Speedway the last time the CARS Tour was in action.
Another driver with momentum on his side is three-time CARS Tour champion, Bobby McCarty. Even though McCarty is still in the longest winless drought of his CARS Tour career, McCarty just found victory lane just a few days ago in a weekly race right here at Dominion Raceway. Dominion has been a good track for McCarty as well. In four CARS Tour starts at Dominion, McCarty has only finished outside the top 10 on one occasion.
There’s not many tracks that defending CARS Tour champion Carson Kvapil has struggled at in his year and a half with the series, but Dominion Raceway is one of them. Granted, Kvapil’s sample size is very small as he’s made just one start at Dominion. Kvapil started third and dropped all the way back to his finishing position of 15th, two laps down, one year ago. This race last year was the only time Kvapil finished worse than fourth all season long.
Kvapil will have to do much better than that this Saturday as the points battle is beginning to heat up entering the seventh round of the season. Kvapil leads Brenden Queen by just 20 points, and Connor Hall by 23 points.
The aforementioned Queen is one of the wild card drivers entering Saturday’s race. Saturday will be Queen’s first CARS Tour start at Dominion, though he has made a handful of starts in NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series competition there with a best finish of third. Queen is still riding momentum from his massive win at North Wilkesboro Speedway last month, but in reality, that wave of momentum really began at Ace Speedway at the start of May. Queen has finished no worse than fourth in his last three starts.
The CARS Tour 125 will be the third race of the evening at Dominion Raceway with racing set to begin at 7 p.m. ET live on FloRacing. Race fans can subscribe to FloRacing by clicking here.
