Alex Guenette Emerges Victorious From Wild Pinty's Race At Trois-Rivieres
Alex Guenette won a wild NASCAR Pinty's Series Les 60 Tours Rousseau Metal at Grand Prix Trois-Rivieres
In yet another wild Trois-Rivières event for the NASCAR Pinty’s Series, Alex Guenette emerged through the chaos for his first career series victory in his 31st start.
It was a relatively straightforward first half of the Les 60 Tours Rousseau Metal at G3PR, with Marc-Antione Camirand and pole-sitter Kevin Lacroix swapping the lead back and forth. Guenette, who started 10th, made his way into the lead battle on Lap 16, as his No. 39 was nearing the back bumper of Camirand’s No. 96, but the latter held the top spot under green.
28 laps later, a Mathieu Kingsbury spin wound up bringing out a red flag to start the chaos. Gary Klutt and Andrew Ranger got together, bringing out another caution, which led to hometown drivers JF and LP Dumoulin making contact while battling Camirand for the lead.
The brothers sustained heavy damage after spinning and bringing out yet another yellow flag, leading to an overtime restart.
Guenette wouldn’t be denied, as he wrestled the lead away from Camirand, who appeared to encounter issues underneath the No. 96 car on right-handers. Despite Ranger and Klutt wrecking in Turn 1, the race stayed green as Guenette sailed onto his first career NASCAR Pinty’s Series victory.
D.J. Kennington, Camirand, defending race winner Alex Tagliani and Treyten Lapcevich rounded out the top five, with Sam Fellows (career-best finish), L.P. Montour, Larry Jackson, Ray Courtemanche Jr. and T.J. Rinomato completing the top 10.
Lacroix finished 19th after falling out of the race due to an engine issue. Entering G3PR as the points leader, Lacroix falls to third place with Kennington taking over the points lead for the first time this season. Camirand sits in second with L.P. Dumoulin, and Alex Tagliani filling the rest of the top five in the standings.
The Les 60 Tours Rosseau Metal will air on TSN on Saturday, August 13 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
The NASCAR Pinty’s Series heads next to Ohsweken Speedway on Tuesday, August 16, the tenth of the 2022 season.
