Camirand's Dream Season Continues With NASCAR Pinty's Win In Edmonton
Marc-Antoine Camirand picked up his second NASCAR Pinty's Series win of the season at Edmonton International Raceway
It’s already been a dream season for Marc-Antoine Camirand.
The Quebec native wheeled his No. 96 GM Paillé machine to his second short-track oval win in a row and first of his career at Edmonton International Raceway, dominating the Bayer 300 and holding off Kevin Lacroix and Andrew Ranger in an overtime finish.
The win was Camirand’s second of the year, a new career-high, and the fourth win of his career. It also marks his fourth top-five finish in six races at Edmonton and fourth top-five of the season, two away from his career-high mark set in 2018.
The overtime restart came after a caution flew for Alex Tagliani, multiple laps down, taking out Brandon Watson, who was running inside the top-five, into Turns 1 and 2. The incident set up an overtime finish battle between the two dominant cars all evening: Camirand and points leader Kevin Lacroix.
The two swapped the lead multiple times over the course of 300+ laps, even trading some paint around the quarter-mile bullring.
But in the end, it was Camirand who chose the inside lane on the final restart and prevailed. With the win, he vaults to first in the standings but is still only two points ahead of Lacroix.
Ranger, L.P. Dumoulin and Donald Theetge rounded out the top five with Watson, D.J. Kennington, Gary Klutt, Dexter Stacey and Jamie Krzysik completing the top ten.
The NASCAR Pinty’s Series heads next to Sutherland Automotive Speedway for a pair of races on Wednesday, July 27, the seventh and eighth races of the 2022 season. The first of the Leland Industries Twin 125’s is scheduled to go green at 6:05 p.m. CST / 8:05 pm EST, while race two will start at approximatelya 8:15 p.m. CST / 10:15 p.m. EST.
