Series expands live event coverage visibility by joining the FloSports network, continues televised programming agreement with the CBS Sports Network

FloSports and Amsoil Championship Off-Road have inked an agreement that establishes FloSports as the exclusive live streaming home of Amsoil Champ Off-Road racing. The subscription service grants fans full access via its FloRacing platform to all six stops (12 rounds) of the 2022 campaign, highlighted by complete coverage of all Pro and Sportsman divisions

What is Short Course Off-Road racing?

Championship Short Course is a form of off-road auto racing involving modified trucks, side-by-sides (SxS), buggies, and karts on a dirt closed course over a short length (.5 to 2 miles). It is distinct from long course, or desert racing such as the Baja 1000, King of The Hammers, Mint 400, etc., which entail great distance over a quasi-linear course. 

Which venues does the series visit? 

A number of the sport's crown jewels: Crandon, Bark River, and Antigo. The series also visits two off-road venues that have popped up over the past decade: ERX Motor Park (2016) and Dirt City Motorplex (2020). 

I remember Johnny Greaves from back in the day. Does he still race? 

You better believe it. In fact, #22 earned his 100th career PRO4 win at Dirt City Motorplex season. In addition, the PRO4 class features a number of hot shoes including his son, CJ Greaves, as well as Kyle LeDuc, Doug Mittag, Andrew Carlson, Jimmy Henderson, Adrian Cenni, Kyle Chaney, Cole Mamer, Ben Passa, Scottie Lawrence, RJ Anderson, and others. The PRO2 class is equally is stacked with defending champ Keegan Kincaid, Cory Winner, Jerett Brooks, Ryan Beat, Mickey Thomas, Kyle Kleiman, Trevor Leighton, Ricky Gutierrez, and others. How can I bring myself up to speed on results from past seasons? 

Easy. Visit champoffroad.com where you can find points, news, results and more from seasons past. Amsoil Championship Off-Road took over the scene in 2020.

What is the format? 

The day before the event begins serves as a practice day for all divisions. The Pro divisions receive two practice sessions with the second practice session serving as group qualifying for the next day. The fastest qualifier will draw a pill for the inversion. The second day's starting grid is determined by the first day's results. Sportsman starting positions are determined by pill draw. Here is a sample raceday order of events from last season.

What does the daily schedule of events look like? 

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the official schedule for each event. Most events are ran on Saturdays and Sundays. The exceptions to this are the ERX Off-Road National (Friday-Saturday) and the World Championship Off-Road Races (Friday-Sunday). Generally, Sportsman Opening Ceremonies commence at around 10am local time. Pro Opening Ceremonies are around 4pm. Here is a sample schedule from last season.

Teach me the jargon.

You got it. These terms are commonly used among dirt racing fans at large (Dirt track racing, motocross, supercross, etc.)

• Blue groove: When rubber from the tires gets into the dirt and hardens, it forms a blue groove.
• Whoops: A section of the track with a series of small jumps or bumps. 
• Double: When a racer goes over two jumps or "whoops" with one long jump.
• Triple: When a racer goes over three jumps or "whoops" with one long jump.
• Grooming: Keeping the track in good shape for racing. This includes watering, grading, and pushing dirt with dozers and graders.
• Holeshot: The first racer to reach the first turn has gotten the holeshot.
• The line: The fastest approach or route on the track to a turn, start, or pass. Also referred to as "the groove". 
• Loamy: Loose, soft dirt on the track that is moist, but well-drained.
• "Put on the trailer": If you lose, you got "put on the trailer."
• Roost: A large stream of dirt thrown from the back of a racer's tires into the racer directly behind.
• Slingshot: A fast passing maneuver.
• DQ: Disqualified. 
• Competition yellow/caution: The halfway point of the race where the field is restacked.

What classes can I expect to see?

Expect to see the best of the best drivers across all divisions. Amsoil Championship Off-Road divisions can be divided into two categories: Pro and Sportsman. 

Pro Classes: 

• PRO4: Hand-built, full-size, four-wheel drive pickup truck - the premier truck of off-road racing. Manufacturer body styles and engines must be from the same manufacturer. 8 cylinders, up to 900HP
• PRO2: Custom-built, full-size, two-wheel drive pickup truck. The vehicle must be a standard manufacturer production model available to the general public in the U.S., produced in a minimum quantity of 5,000. 8 cylinders, 750-900HP
• PRO LITE: Light-duty, custom-built, two-wheel drive pickup truck. The vehicle must be a standard manufacturer production model available to the general public in the U.S., produced in a minimum quantity of 5,000. 8 cylinders, 450-500HP
• PRO SPEC: AMSOIL Championship Off-Road’s newest Pro Truck class. Light-duty, custom built two-wheel drive pickup trucks that utilize a Chevrolet Performance V6 aluminum engine and a G-Force four-speed manual transmission.
• Pro Turbo SxS: Side-by-sides must utilize a stock chassis and stock appearance. Aftermarket roll cage required with engine modifications allowed. Supercharger and turbocharger both permitted.
• Pro Stock SxS: Side-by-sides must utilize a stock chassis and stock appearance. Aftermarket roll cage required. Stock engine not to exceed 1000cc. Supercharger and turbocharger are not permitted.

Sportsman Classes: 

• Stock Truck: Two-wheel drive pickup with a 3/4-ton or smaller chassis. Three engine choices are available, and the engine must remain stock, but allowed reinforcing. Trucks less than 3/4-ton must weigh at least 3,500 pounds.
• 1600 Light Buggy: A single seat limited, four-wheel car using Volkswagon type 1 stock components with a 1585cc engine. 55HP
• Short Course Karts: 100% spec mini race truck with Briggs and Stratton spec engine. Driven by kids ranging in age from 7 to 15 years old.
• Mod Kart: Four-wheel race vehicle powered by a 400cc Honda quad engine. Built for drivers ages 11-16. With driver, the vehicle must weigh 850 pounds, and will reach speeds above 65mph.
• 1600 Single Buggy: A limited four-wheeled vehicle, using a Volkswagen Type 1, 1600cc air-cooled engine
• Super Stock Truck: Two-wheel drive pickup with a 3/4-ton or smaller chassis. Three engine choices are available, and the engine must remain stock, but allowed reinforcing. Trucks less than 3/4-ton must weigh at least 3,500 pounds.
• Sportsman SxS: Production-based, 1000cc, single-seat side-by-side featuring enhanced safety and performance modifications.
• Pro Am SxS: This class is designed to bridge the gap between Sportsman SxS and Pro Stock SxS. Vehicles are production based 1000cc SxS that must use stock chassis and maintain stock appearance. Aftermarket roll cage and other safety modifications required, and some performance modifications are allowed.
• 170 SxS: Stock production-based 170 side-by-sides must utilize stock chassis and stock appearance. 169cc displacement.
• 570 SxS: Stock production based 570 SxS’s must utilize stock chassis and stock appearance. 567cc displacement. Intended for drivers transitioning from Karts or 170 SxS’s before getting into a full-size vehicle.
• Pro Buggy: A single seat limited, four-wheel vehicle utilizing many different engine combinations with unlimited suspension chassis designs. Engines are limited to 1650-1915cc. 200HP
