DGR Hauler Driver Killed En Route To ARCA Race At Phoenix Raceway
The David Gilliland Racing hauler carrying the ARCA Menards Series car for Taylor Gray crashed early Tuesday with the driver tragically passing away.
A hauler carrying the race car for Taylor Gray crashed early Tuesday morning just south of Longview, Texas. The driver of the vehicle, Steven Stotts, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Sgt. Jean Dark.
According to Dark, officials responded to the crash at about 4:25 a.m. local time on westbound Interstate-20.

Stotts was driving the hauler to Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona, where Gray is scheduled to race in the ARCA Menards Series race on Friday night. DGR has not yet said whether or not they will still be participating in Friday night’s event.

The Texas Highway Patrol preliminary investigation stated that the DGR hauler driven by Stotts “failed to control its speed” and struck the Honda Passport in front of it, which was carrying a small box trailer. After the initial contact, both vehicles went into the center median. The hauler struck the concrete barrier and caught fire.

According to the Longview News-Journal, the driver of the Honda Passport SUV was taken to a Longview hospital in stable condition.
