64th Oswego International Classic Arrives This Weekend
64th Oswego International Classic Arrives This Weekend
Unprecedented situation brings the first of two International Classics in the same year to Oswego Speedway.
The 64th edition of the most prestigious Supermodified race in the country will take place this weekend at Oswego Speedway, and for the first time ever, it will occur in the spring.
Traditionally held on Labor Day weekend, it was announced in September that a second Budweiser International Classic weekend would be added to the 2021 schedule to make-up for for the loss of the 2020 event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 200-lap Classic for the Novelis Supermodifieds will headline Saturday's action at the 'Steel Palace', with defending winner Tyler Thompson looking to repeat.
In the most recent Supermodified feature at Oswego on May 15, Thompson had the checkered flag in sight when he ran out of fuel off the final corner. His teammate Max McLaughlin took advantage and just barely edged out Thompson at the line.
Five-time Classic champion Otto Sitterly will seek a record-tying sixth win on Saturday. Sitterly captured his first classic in 2009, then followed up in 2011, 2012, 2014 and most recently in 2018.
Bentley Warren, Nolan Swift and Greg Furlong are tied with the most career Classic wins with six each.
One driver looking to break through will be Michael Barnes, who has yet to win the Classic despite finishing on the podium five years in a row from 2015 to 2019.
Two-time runner-up Russ Wood just announced he will enter the Classic for the first time in 11 years. Wood will steer the John Colloca No. 41 big block machine.

The 65th edition of the Classic will return on schedule on Labor Day Weekend in September.
