For someone that does not run every CARS Tour race any more, Jared Fryar has quite the stellar stats sheet. Fryar is a two-time CARS Tour champion, with titles coming in both the Late Model Stock Car division and the now-defunct Super Late Model division. And now, Fryar is a five-time LMSC race winner after dominating the late-stages of Saturday’s 125-lap portion of the Folsom Fence Supply 225 at Rougemont, North Carolina’s Orange County Speedway on Saturday night.
Fryar out-dueled NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Layne Riggs to take the lead just past halfway and never looked back, even as Kade Brown was charging hard in the closing laps while Fryar worked through traffic.
Fryar ended up beating Brown to the checkered flag by 2.172 seconds. Kaden Honeycutt finished third, while Riggs finished fourth and Ronnie Bassett Jr. completed the top five.
But the real story of the night was the championship contenders as both points leader Connor Hall and the second-place man in points, Mini Tyrrell, both suffered some form of misfortune.
Hall struggled in qualifying to start off the evening. He started the race in the 11th position, and then went for a spin on the frontstretch on just the fifth lap of the race. Hall didn’t hit anything in his No. 88 machine, but he was never able to fully work his way through the field. Hall, who entered Saturday’s race with a 21-point lead over Tyrrell, finished 18th.
However, Hall still was able to grow his cushion over Tyrrell who finished the night in 26th with a DNF. Tyrrell and Tate Fogleman got together on the frontstretch and both crashed hard in turn one with 40 laps remaining. They were battling at the bottom of the top 10 at the time.
Unofficially, Hall will keep the points lead entering next week’s race at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, North Carolina. He will unofficially enter that race with a nine-point cushion over Kade Brown, who will leap-frog Tyrrell for second-place in the standings. Ronnie Bassett Jr., who finished fifth, jumps into third in points, unofficially 18 points behind Hall.
The CARS Tour will be back in action on Saturday, May 3, at Ace Speedway. Race fans that cannot make it to Ace Speedway in person can watch all of the action live on FloRacing with a FloRacing subscription. Fans can subscribe to FloRacing by clicking here.
