Why To Watch The 2024 Snowball Derby At Five Flags Speedway
FloRacing expert Brandon Paul tells us a few reasons why you can't miss this year's Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway, starting Wednesday, Dec. 2.
The crown jewel of super late model racing, the Snowball Derby, is coming live to FloRacing this December 4-8. The 300-lap Super Late Model race takes place on Sunday at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL.
The race will be the culmination of four days of racing that includes local division racing and the biggest Pro Late Model race in North America, the annual Snowflake 100.

The winner of this year's derby will join the likes of Darrell Waltrip, Donnie Allison, Pete Hamilton, Gary Balough, Rich Bickle, Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott, and many more. They will win a purse of $50,000, the largest prize in Snowball Derby history. Last year's race winner Ty Majeski earned $35,000.
We talked with FloRacing expert contributor Brandon Paul about why you can't miss the event.
A Rivalry As Cold As Ice: Bubba Pollard vs Stephen Nasse
"The rivalry everyone will be keeping an eye on: Bubba Pollard vs. Stephen Nasse," says Paul. "Two of the most successful and prolific drivers in Super Late Model racing," he finished. They’ll both be looking for their first Snowball Derby win this weekend.
With the stakes so high, both Pollard and Nasse are likely to be near the front, and their battles on the track will be must-see moments.
One Underrated Driver To Watch: Cole Butcher
While heavyweights Noah Gragson, Derek Kraus, Ty Majeski and other NASCAR drivers grab the headlines, we'll be watching Cole Butcher to see if he can put together another successful week at Five Flags Speedway. Butcher will be driving the No. 28 and is from Porter's Lake, Nova Scotia.
"He's not a name that jumps out on paper but his success behind the wheel the last two years ranks up there with the best of them," described Paul.
"Since the beginning of the 2023 racing season, he's won big races including the Oxford 250, Redbud 400, and Winchester 400. He's also been very fast at Five Flags Speedway and hasn't finished worst than sixth in the last five Snowball Derby events," finished Paul.
We took an inside look at Wilson Motorsports and talked with Cole Butcher in Mooresville, NC in our Drive To The Derby series.

"The Snowball Derby Isn't Just A Race, It's An Event"
We asked Brandon what made the Snowball Derby one of the most anticipated short track races of the year, he responded: "it's not just a race, it's an event."
Looking at the schedule below, you can start to get an idea of what all is included in the week at Five Flags Speedway. "From the simple task of parking haulers on Wednesday until the final checkered flag falls on Sunday, there's never a lack of excitement," Paul added.
The Snowball Derby's ability to attract drivers of all types is what makes it so entertaining for so long. "It attracts the grizzly veterans still hungry for their first Snowball Derby win and the young guns hoping to launch their career by winning the big race," he finished.
"You have drivers like Bubba Pollard who have been trying for many years and would trade everything else away for a Snowball Derby win. Then, you have the rising stars in their teenage years hoping that a Snowball Derby win can put them in the spotlight the same way it did for drivers like Erik Jones, John Hunter Nemechek, Chase Elliott and Christian Eckes.
While they all may have different reasons why they want to win the Snowball Derby, their desire to win the race is the same."
