Batesville Motor Speedway Owners Announce Track Is For Sale
Batesville Motor Speedway, the home of the COMP Cams Topless 100, is for sale, owners Mooney and Connie Starr announced this week.
Batesville Motor Speedway, the home of the COMP Cams Topless 100 and among the most prominent racetracks in Arkansas, is for sale, owners Mooney and Connie Starr announced this week.
In a statement on the Facebook page for the 3/8-mile Locust Grove, Ark., track that was built in 1991 and promoted by the Starrs virtually its entire history, the couple plans to step away from racing.
"We have spent 32 years of our lives promoting races in the Mid-South area and I feel that we have made a major impact on all classes of racing with some of the wild ideas that turned out to be positive ones for the racers and the fans such as the Topless 100," the 62-year-old Mooney Starr said. "We have built this facility into one of the nicest dirt tracks around, but there comes a time when you physically cannot do what it takes to keep things going."
The Starrs have established 2025's schedule that can be adopted by new owners, including a Topless 100 paying $50,000-to-win on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
"This is a very hard decision for us to make since racing has been a part of our lives for so long and having sons that race, makes it that much harder," the Starrs posted. "All that we have ever done has revolved around some aspect of racing. It will be a sad day — and a happy day — maybe when we do sell."
Mooney Starr, a longtime automobile dealer, is a 2019 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame inductee. The flamboyant promoter also founded the Mid-American Racing Series and has added innovations to the sport including double-wide restarts.
