Christopher Bell will not advance to the NASCAR Cup Series 'Championship 4' after his last lap pass at Martinsville Speedway's Xfinity 500 was deemed illegal.
On the final lap of Sunday's Xfinity 500, Bell needed one more position to tie William Byron and advance to the final championship round at Phoenix Raceway. Bell caught and passed Bubba Wallace into turn three, but rode the wall out of turn four in a move that looked similar to Ross Chastain's 'Hail Melon' in 2022. NASCAR declared shortly after the finish that the move was a safety violation, handing the final playoff spot to Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron.
