Following a topsy-turvy elimination race at the Charlotte Roval, it appeared that two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano was eliminated from the Round of Eight. But now that is no longer the case. Logano will move on, and Alex Bowman has been eliminated following a disqualification in post-race technical inspection. Bowman’s No. 48 for Hendrick Motorsports was found to be too light at the scales following the race.

Bowman will be scored as the 38th and last finisher in Sunday’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and he will forfeit all stage points scored. Bowman was the winner of Stage 2 in Sunday’s race.

"Unfortunately, when we were running the No. 48 through, it didn't pass the minimum weight specs," said NASCAR's Managing Director, Brad Moran. "We allowed them to fuel it, which they already did. We allowed them to fuel it again. We let them run the pumps to make sure all the pick-up boxes were full. We give the teams every opportunity to try to meet minimum weight. We also have them plug in the water and run water through the system to make sure they're full of water and then we re-scale it. And it still didn't meet the weight. We backed it off and we run it across one more time just to confirm the weights were accurate. They are allowed a half a percent of a weight break, which is about 17 pounds, give or take. That is what they're allowed, and it was more than that."

Prior to the disqualification, it appeared that Hendrick Motorsports would have all four of its drivers in the Round of 8.

Logano finished eighth on Sunday, but was eliminated due to Tyler Reddick rallying from damage suffered earlier in the race to finish 11th. Bowman had originally finished 18th.

Should Hendrick Motorsports choose to appeal, the appeal will be heard this week before the Round of 8 begins next weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
