The starting lineup is set for the second preliminary feature of the week at the 2024 Chili Bowl Nationals. A Tuesday night field that began with 70 drivers has been narrowed down to 24 feature starters, with only the top two finishers transferring to Saturday's main event.

Buddy Kofoid earned the pole positions with runs of seventh-to-second in his heat race and sixth-to-first in his qualifier. Chase McDermand, who finished third in last year's Tuesday prelim, will roll off from the outside of the front row.

Defending Tuesday night winner Hank Davis, Sprint Car driver Parker Price-Miller and Kameron Key complete the top five in the lineup.

The full lineup for the 30-lap preliminary feature can be viewed below.

Why Is It Called The Chili Bowl?

The Chili Bowl Nationals were started back in 1987 by Lanny Edwards and Emmett Hahn. The two promoters partnered with “The Chili Bowl Company" owned by the Berryhill family. Edwards and Hahn decided to name the event after the company.

“My father bought into a restaurant on 11th street (in Tulsa),” said Bob Berryhill. “And it was called the Chili Bowl.”

Eventually, the Berryhill family took the Original Chili Bowl restaurant and turned it into a company that sold their chili in grocery stores.
