One night down, two nights to go at the 2023 Castrol Gateway Dirt Nationals. A new field of drivers will be in action Friday night during the second night of preliminary action at The Dome. 

More than 70 Dirt Late Model drivers and 30 Open Wheel Modified drivers are expected to be in action. 

Let's take a look at some of the familiar faces you can expect to see in action Friday night. Full rosters for both divisions can be viewed at the bottom of this story.

Brandon Sheppard

B-Shepp has finished on every step of the podium at the Castrol Gateway Dirt Nationals except for the top step. He'll be looking to park the No. B5 machine in victory lane and seal the deal this time around. 

Charlie Mefford

An unknown name prior to the 2022 Castrol Gateway Dirt Nationals, Mefford became a viral sensation last year after flipping on the backstretch. The words "You Can't Park There" are no synonymous with the The Dome. He's back in his Modified this year looking to excite the fans a different way by going to victory lane. 

Devin Moran

The 2023 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series championship runner-up returns to The Dome after a sixth-place finish in last year's main event. Moran will not be driving for Double Down Motorsports, but he will be in a No. 99 Dirt Late Model this year. 

Jimmy Owens

"The Newport Nightmare" is set to make his debut at the Castrol Gateway Dirt Nationals in 2023. Owens, a four-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion, will be in his familiar No. 20 ride. 

Joseph Joiner

A star of the popular Hunt The Front YouTube channel, Joiner and team are making their Dome debut in 2023. 

Josh Rice

Known best for his dominance of Florence Motor Speedway, Josh Rice is another driver set to make his Castrol Gateway Dirt Nationals debut this weekend.

Ricky Thornton Jr. 

Fresh off his Modified win on Thursday night, RTJ jumps into this No. 20 Dirt Late Model on Friday night looking to double down in preliminary features. Thornton is looking to cap off a dream season with a big win at The Dome. 

Tanner English

Following two straight runner-up finishes at The Dome, English returns this year looking to finally seal the deal. English enters the race as a pre-race favorite to win the Gateway Arch trophy and $30,000. 

Tyler Carpenter

You can't mention the Castrol Gateway Dirt Nationals without mentioning Tyler Carpenter. The two-time race winner is a legend inside The Dome and will begin his journey towards a third win on Friday night. 

Wil Herrington

In his Castrol Gateway Dirt Nationals debut a year ago, Wil Herrington nearly pulled off the biggest win of his career. However, a promising run ended in heartbreak when a mechanical issue ended his race early.
