Qualifying Results: ValleyStar Credit Union 300 At Martinsville Speedway
Bobby McCarty's lap of 19.704 seconds was the fastest of 84 cars in ValleyStar Credit Union 300 qualifying at Martinsville Speedway on Friday night.
For the second year in a row, Bobby McCarty walked out of Martinsville Speedway the night before the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 with a $5,000 check in his pocket for putting in the fastest lap in Friday’s qualifying session.
McCarty turned in a lap of 19.704 seconds around the half-mile Martinsville Speedway. McCarty was the last of the 84 drivers to take time and went to the top of the board immediately.
As a result, the Summerfield, North Carolina driver is feeling as confident as ever that this weekend might be the year that he finally walks out of here with a grandfather clock.
“Fastest in practice. Qualified on the pole. Maybe this is the year,” McCarty said with a nervous smile. “I’ve got a really good feeling right now. I’m really pumped. I’m super excited and I’m so proud of the guys for working so hard all day long.”
Coincidentally, McCarty beat out his former team for the fast-time award as Landon Huffman and Nelson Motorsports put in the second-fastest lap of the night with a 19.768-second lap.
Carson Kvapil, Ryan Millington, and Daniel Silvestri rounded out the top five with Doug Barnes Jr., Brenden Queen, Matt Waltz, Sam Yarbrough and Dillon Harville completing the top 10.
All 84 drivers will have to qualify their way into Saturday night’s 200-lap feature in Saturday afternoon’s four 25-lap heat races, including McCarty. Heat racing action is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET live on FloRacing with the feature to follow at approximately 7 p.m. ET.
