Indiana State Fairgrounds Reflections

Perhaps it is because I was raised in the heartland, but there is something about old State fairgrounds ovals that always get me. I loved going to races at Sedalia Missouri, Des Moines, Iowa, and later Springfield and Du Quoin, Illinois. I loved big covered grandstands like those in Hutchinson, Kansas, as well as Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Yet, there has been nothing that moved me quite like attending races at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

Different Instrument, Same Tune for Swanson

The news at the end of 2018 that the USAC Silver Crown championship team of Tony DePalma was leaving the series came as an eye opener for fans and competitors.  The departure of a team that won four championships in five years triggered a lot of questions.  What would happen to championship crew chief Bob Hampshire?  Would the familiar number 63 be used again?  Where would the all-time leader in series victories, Kody Swanson, land in 2019?  Would Swanson have the same magic touch in a new ride that he had with Hampshire and DePalma?

Final Hoosier Hundred at the Indy Mile Set for May 23

The Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center has announced that the Indiana State Fairgrounds one-mile dirt track will be converted from a dirt surface to an all-weather track made of crushed limestone to be utilized for year-round harness training and parking for the Indiana State Fair.
