Caeden Steele On Road To Recovery Following Fire At Keller Auto Speedway
Caeden Steele is recovering from burns suffered in a scary fire at the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, California on Thursday evening.
A scary scene unfolded in hot laps at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, California on Thursday evening when Caeden Steele’s Sprint Car caught on fire. Steele rushed to get out of the car, but the pant legs of his driver’s suit ignited.
Steele, with the help of safety crews and fellow competitor, DJ Netto, was able to put out the fires on his legs fairly quickly, but not before suffering some burns.
Steele’s Twitter account explained that the flames were from a fuel fire in the cockpit of his 360 Sprint Car, and he went to a local hospital for further examination.
The twitter account issued an update on Steele’s condition on Friday morning, explaining that Steele has second-degree burns to 16-percent of his legs from the mid-thigh down to his ankles. Steele is also going to spend two more days in the burn unit for further evaluation. They do not believe that skin grafts are going to be needed so far.

HUGE Thank You to @DJ_Netto88 for helping out immediately! Thank you to all for your prayers and well wishes!
C has 2nd degree burns on 16% of his legs-mid thigh down. He is in good spirits and has some good meds.
Steele runs a K1 Race Gear driver’s suit, which helped him avoid further burns to his lower legs and his thighs. According to the SFI Foundation Inc, the company that performs the safety ratings for most safety components in racing, the top-rated driver’s suit will protect against second-degree burns up to 40 seconds. Most driver’s suits are rated for up to 10 seconds of protection from second-degree burns. The SFI Foundation also encourages all drivers to wear additional fire-retardant layers such as fire-proof underwear and under shirts.
Steele’s fire on Thursday night is the second time in less than a week that a scary situation involving fire unfolded. Dylan Cisney’s Sprint Car caught on fire during a crash at the Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway. Cisney was able to escape his wrecked race car before his driver’s suit caught on fire, and he was aided in his escape by fellow racers, Danny Dietrich and Logan Wagner.
