GEORGETOWN, DE – Due to incoming wet weather and sub-freezing temperatures, the management team of Georgetown Speedway and the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco have announced the following schedule changes for the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial this weekend (March 10-12).

  • Thursday, March 10 Open Practice has been canceled to allow the speedway and pit area to dry from significant rainfall on Wednesday.

  • The Friday, March 11 program will go on as scheduled with Small-Block Modifieds, RUSH Late Models, Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Delaware Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers on the program.

  • Saturday’s $25,000-to-win Melvin L. Joseph Memorial Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco ‘Elite’ Series event has been postponed to Mid-Atlantic Championship Weekend, Oct. 28-29 (a revised schedule will be released for that event). This event will serve as the championship round of the six-race Halmar International ‘Elite’ program for the ’22 season. Saturday’s forecast is calling for a rain/snow mix and sub-freezing temperatures.

  •  Sunday’s rain date will not be utilized after reviewing the forecast with temperatures only to reach 40 degrees and dropping into the 30s at race time. In the interest of tire conservation during a shortage, a daytime event is not feasible and the low temperatures in the evening are challenging for engines at a time when parts and engine blocks are unavailable.

The STSS resumes its 2022 season with two events in Central Pennsylvania Saturday, March 19 and Sunday, March 20.

On Saturday, the series ventures to Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway for the ‘Icebreaker’ event, Round No. 1 of the Hurlock Auto & Speed South Region for the Modifieds (40 laps, $5,000 to win, $500 to start) and Round No. 1 of the Belmont’s Garage South Region for the Crate 602 Sportsman (25 laps, $1,500 to win, $100 to start).

Sunday brings the STSS Modified contingent to the ‘Speed Palace’ of Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway for a 40-lap, $5,000-to-win, $500-to-start event, Round No. 2 of the Hurlock Auto & Speed South Region in a doubleheader with the ULMS Super Late Models.

The Halmar ‘Elite’ program resumes with $25,000 going to the winner of the ‘Hard Clay Open’ on Saturday, April 2 at the legendary Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y. A Friday night practice (April 1) sets the stage for the event which also serves as Race No. 1 of the River Valley Builders North Region for the Modifieds.

Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
