Silver Dollar Speedway Season Begins This Weekend On FloRacing
Silver Dollar Speedway will open the 2022 racing season with the John Padjen Classic Silver Cup live on FloRacing.
A new season will begin at Silver Dollar Speedway this Friday and Saturday with the 40th John Padjen Classic Silver Cup for 360 Sprint Cars. The traditional event will kick off a full season of racing from the Chico, California race track live on FloRacing.
This weekend's season-opening race will ring in a new era for the track under the ownership of Kyle Larson, Brad Sweet and Colby Copeland. All events at Silver Dollar Speedway except for the Gold Cup sanctioned by the World of Outlaws will be streamed live on FloRacing in 2022.
For this year's event, the promotional group known as SLC Promotions has boosted the purse for both nights of racing. Saturday night's Winged 360 Sprint Car winner will collect a $4,000 check in victory lane.
“I think it’s great what they are trying to accomplish,” said four-time track champion Andy Forsberg in a track press release. “I have seen firsthand how hard they have worked, and I know the Sprint Car teams and drivers are excited to race for more money.”
The increased purse is expected to bring in big name teams and drivers to Silver Dollar Speedway.
This year's Silver Cup is in tribute to former promoter John Padjen, who passed away in December of 2021. Padjen and his family started promoting the Silver Dollar Speedway in 1979. On Saturday night, the track will pay tribute to the Padjen family with a ceremony on the front stretch.
“The Silver Dollar Speedway still exists today because of what John Padjen did over those four decades of promoting,” said Brad Sweet of SLC Promotions. “His involvement and dedication to Silver Dollar Speedway is something that we as a group want to build upon and continue what he and his family started all those years ago.”
In addition to 360 Sprint Cars, Dwarf Cars will also be in action with a large car count expected.
Racing is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. PT on both Friday and Saturday.
Fans not able to attend the event in person will be able to watch live on FloRacing. If you're not already a FloRacing subscriber, click here to join today.
