Tonight's Lucas Oil Chili Bowl VIROC Field Is Stacked
Monday night's Lucas Oil Chili Bowl VIROC field includes former race winners, Sprint Car champions, Midget champions and NASCAR champions.
Since 2009, the Vacuworx Invitational Race of Champions (VIROC) has been an enticing addition to the already-exciting week at the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals.
It was a Tuesday tradition for 13 years, and now returns to the originally intended night one program on Monday as the first of five preliminary programs leading to Saturday’s Golden Driller.
The VIROC brings the best of the best together for an early-week showdown as champions from multiple disciples and recent Chili Bowl stars go toe-to-toe in a brief program. The addition of Group Qualifying gives us the potential for a new track record (11.168), which hasn’t been touched since 2001 when Kasey Kahne set it.
Competing in tonight’s Vacuworx Invitational Race of Champions is:
Blake Hahn (ASCS National Tour Champion)
Brad Sweet (World of Outlaws Champion)
Brady Bacon (USAC Sprint Car Champion)
Bryant Wiedeman (POWRi Midget Champion)
Buddy Kofoid (USAC Midget Champion)
Cannon McIntosh (‘21 Monday Winner)
Chase Elliott (‘20 NASCAR Champion)
Christopher Bell (’17, ’18, ’19 Chili Bowl Champion)
Daryn Pittman (‘17 Chili Bowl Runner-Up)
Justin Grant (‘21 Friday Winner)
Kyle Larson (’20, ’21 Chili Bowl Champion)
Logan Seavey (Kevin Swindell Chili Bowl Champion)
Rico Abreu (’21 Wednesday Winner)
Sammy Swindell (5x Chili Bowl Champion)
Spencer Bayston (’18 Podium Finisher)
Tanner Thorson (’21 Podium Finisher)
Tim McCreadie (Chili Bowl Champion)
Tyler Courtney (All Star Circuit of Champions Champion)
Established in 2009, Sammy Swindell is still the winningest driver in VIROC history with four wins in ’09, ’11, ’12 & ’15 to his credit. Other multi-time winners include Kyle Larson (’14, ’17), Tanner Thorson (’16, ’19) and Christopher Bell (’20, ’21).
To this day, Sammy (2009) and his son Kevin Swindell (2013) are still the only driver to parlay a VIROC victory with a Golden Driller later in the same week.
You can watch the VIROC, the entirety of Monday’s program, and the rest of the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals up until the C-Mains on Saturday exclusively on FloRacing.
