Who To Watch Monday At The Lucas Oil Chili Bowl
Monday night at the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl has been Cannon McIntosh's night the last two years. This year, it's also NASCAR night.
The wait is over. It’s finally here. Tonight, the first of six straight race days inside Tulsa’s SageNet Center will officially kick off the 36th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals.
A loaded day is on tap at the Tulsa Expo Raceway with practice running from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. CT, the preliminary show beginning at 5 p.m., and the VIROC Race of Champions slated to run at 9:15 p.m. tonight. Every single lap tonight is streamed exclusively on FloRacing.
Currently, 72 drivers are expected for Monday’s Cummins Qualifying Night. The tricky part is that only TWO will lock-in for Saturday’s 55-lap Championship A-Main, where the Golden Driller is won.
Every single position is crucial, though, as these preliminary finishes from Monday through Friday will determine the lineups of Saturday’s alphabet soup, which begins at 9am with double Q-Mains.
Tonight’s program is expected to include 8-9 Heat Races, 4 Qualifers, 2 D-Mains, 2 C-Mains, 2 B-Mains, and the 30-lap Preliminary A-Main, as well as VIROC Qualifying and Feature.
Bixby, OK’s Cannon McIntosh, who has won the last two Monday A-Mains, will seek a third straight victory tonight, but this time aboard the Dave Mac-Dalby Motorsports #08 following his departure from KKM.
Speaking of KKM, their 15-car roster is opened by a trio including 13-year-old rookie Gavan Boschele and Californian’s Jesse Love and Tanner Carrick.
Tyler Courtney, a lock-in driver four of the last five years, is tired of McIntosh’s rear bumper and wants his first preliminary win since 2017 in Tulsa. He’s back in the Clauson-Marshall Racing #7C with NOS Energy Drink support.
RMS Racing, who put all five entries in the top five on their prelims last year, will open the week with World of Outlaws star David Gravel in the #1D. He’s going for his second-career Chili Bowl A-Main start.
In a way, Monday is like NASCAR Night with a trio of popular stars including Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman, and Chase Briscoe all set to participate in the preliminary show.
Other names like Chase Johnson, Gary Taylor, Jerry Coons Jr, Cole Bodine, Mitchel Moles, Nick Hoffman, and more come to mind as contenders on the opening night.
