30 Favorites For The Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout
The battle to win a Golden Driller trophy at the Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout will be fiercer than ever before. FloRacing assembles a list of 30 favorites.
With more than 1,500+ entries, the Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout is one of the hardest racing events to win in the entire world.
The “Mecca of Micros” is a fitting name for this event which continues to experience record growth among all six divisions for the Micro Sprints.
The true list of contenders for the prestigious Golden Driller is a mile long, but we wanted to look at 30 of the most notable stars in action this week in Tulsa.
Remember, you can watch every single race from the 37th annual Tulsa Shootout on Flo Racing, which starts on Wednesday, December 29 and concludes on Saturday, January 1.
Some of the top dogs in attendance include:
Christopher Bell (Norman, OK)
Now a NASCAR Cup Series winner, C-Bell is continuing his winter tradition of returning to the Tulsa Shootout prior to the Chili Bowl. He finally conquered the Tulsa Shootout with a Winged Outlaw Golden Driller in 2018 and plans to add a second next week as he runs for Keith Kunz Motorsports in the non-wing classes and his own No. 21 machines in the winged classes.
Brady Bacon (Broken Arrow, OK)
Bacon is one of the most successful drivers in Tulsa Shootout history with four Golden Drillers, 10 podium finishes and 20 top-10 results in 30 A-Main appearances. The reigning USAC National Sprint Car champion will drive for the Hinck’s in both Outlaw classes and the Reed’s in both Stock classes as he attempts to become the first to achieve to “Quadruple Crown” of winning all four major divisions.
Tyler Courtney (Indianapolis, IN)
Sunshine is coming off a career year in which he won the FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions title and banked $175,000 at the Kings Royal in his rookie effort. He enjoyed his best Shootout run ever last year with a second in A-Class and third in Winged Outlaw. He’s back with car owner Chad Wilson to try to become the first driver to start all four A-Mains in back-to-back years.
Mitchel Moles (Raisin City, CA)
The defending Winged Outlaw champion will try to become the first back-to-back winner since fellow Californian Heath Duinkerken did it in 2012-13. He’s reunited with the Ten-J Chassis squad and prepared for quadruple duty next week.
Emerson Axsom (Franklin, IN)
Axsom’s 2020 Winged Outlaw title broke a 15-year drought for Hoosiers in the big dance at the Tulsa Shootout and led to a quick ascension through the USAC Midget and now into the USAC Sprint Car ranks. The 17-year-old returns with Ten-J Chassis next week for another dose of quadruple duty.
Kris Carroll (Claremore, OK)
For years, this 28-year-old kept his talents to the local level, but the whole nation saw them on full display during last year’s Tulsa Shootout. After running second to Brady Bacon in 2020, Carroll came back in 2021 to dominate the Outlaw Non-Wing A-Main with a 3.448-second margin of victory. He’s back for quadruple duty next week.

Kyle Spence (Bear, DE)
After back-to-back years of winning Stock Non-Wing (2019) and A-Class (2020), Spence missed cloud nine last year and left Tulsa without a Golden Driller for the first time since 2018. He’ll try to return to the mountaintop this week as he runs quadruple duty at the event.
Alex Bright (Collegeville, PA)
The 2020 Stock Non-Wing champion became the 12th driver in Tulsa Shootout history to qualify for all four Stock/Outlaw A-Mains last year. He’s back in quadruple duty to try to become the fourth driver to ever start all four twice, and hopefully add some more Golden Drillers along the way.
Joe B. Miller (Millersville, MO)
His 2017 Golden Driller run from worst-to-first will forever be among the stuff of legends. In total, Joe B. has started at least two A-Mains for each of the past seven years. He’s back for quadruple duty this week in the No. 51B.
Frank Flud (Pryor, OK)
An icon in the micro sprint ranks, Flud is making the switch to 1Way Performance Chassis with quadruple duty this week. His three previous Golden Drillers in the micro ranks came aboard a D1 (2017 Stock Non-Wing) and Sawyer (2014 Winged Outlaw, 2014 Stock Non-Wing).
Jason McDougal (Broken Arrow, OK)
J-Mac will forever own one of the most iconic performances in Tulsa Shootout history thanks to his three Driller night in 2018. The Factor One stud is back in all four classes with the chance to become the first to hit the Quadruple Crown with a Winged Outlaw title.

Jake Hagopian (Fresno, CA)
The 2019 A-Class champion doesn’t get behind the wheel as much these days, but he’s as lethal as ever when he does. The Driven Performance ringleader will battle in three divisions this week with chances in Winged Outlaw, Stock Non-Wing, and A-Class.
Ryan Timms (Oklahoma City, OK)
After setting the Sprint Car & Midget world on fire in 2021, this 15-year-old will return to his roots with quadruple duty at the Tulsa Shootout this week. He’s already got a 2018 Jr. Sprint Golden Driller on his mantle and enters as a serious threat to collect some more.
Brent Crews (Denver, NC)
At the age of 12-years-old last year, Crews was a one-man thrill show as he ran up to third in Outlaw Non-Wing. Ahead of his Chili Bowl debut with CB Industries in two weeks, he’ll contest quadruple duty at the Tulsa Shootout this week.
Gavan Boschele (Mooresville, NC)
Another teenage sensation, this 13-year-old POWRi National Midget winner is linked up with Swindell SpeedLab and Motorsport Games for a run at Tulsa Shootout quadruple duty before joining Keith Kunz Motorsports for the Chili Bowl.
Jade Avedisian (Clovis, CA)
She already has one Golden Driller from the 2020 Restricted A-Main and followed that with a historic $20,000 Winged Outlaw win at Sweet Springs last year. Now the 15-year-old is back for quadruple duty aboard he Driven Performance#14J
Garrett Benson (Concordia, MO)
This young prodigy has been in the Shootout spotlight for several years now, impressing more and more with each performance. The 12-year-old son of former POWRi Micro champion Nathan Benson will compete in the Winged Outlaw and A-Class divisions this week.
Michael Faccinto (Hanford, CA)
A two-time Golden Driller winner (2013 A-Class, 2015 Winged Outlaw), Faccinto has the chance to become the 10th driver with three Tulsa Shootout titles in the primary classes. He’s set for triple duty this week in a pair of D1 Chassis machines.
Blake Hahn (Sapulpa, OK)
Owner of eight Golden Drillers already, Hahn is back in the Outlaw classes aboard the No. 52 with hopes of reaching the double-digit club. It’s a great warmup for the grandson of the event founder, Emmett Hahn, as he chases his fifth Chili Bowl A-Main start in two weeks.
Logan Seavey (Sutter, CA)
Before chasing a Chili Bowl title with Swindell SpeedLab, the USAC star will battle at the “Mecca of Micros” aboard a Ten-J Chassis. He’s fresh off a Hangtown 100 title and Turkey Night Grand Prix victory as his attention now turns to the Winged Outlaw and Outlaw Non-Wing classes.
Kevin Thomas Jr. (Cullman, AL)
The newest member of the All Star Circuit of Champions will begin his 2022 season behind the wheel of a Micro Sprint at the Tulsa Shootout. KTJ, who ran a career-best 6th last year in Winged Outlaw, will return with Farrell Frameworks in the Outlaw divisions and Kevin Reed in the Stock classes.

Dylan Kadous (Topeka, KS)
A TKH Motorsports staple for years, DK has stepped up the game in his last two of nine Tulsa Shootout A-Mains. He finished thirrd in 2020 Outlaw Non-Wing and was running second before an issue during the 2019 Winged Outlaw finale.
Kevin Bayer (Bixby, OK)
A four-time Tulsa Shootout champion, KB is schedule to partake in the Winged Outlaw and A-Class divisions this week. He topped the premier class back in 2008 and has two scores in A-Class from 1995 and 2005.
Kameron Key (Warrensburg, MO)
He almost cracked the top-10 for the first time in his Tulsa Shootout career last year, and returns with a lethal TKH Motorsports entry in all four premier classes this week.
Cole Bodine (Rossville, IN)
This two-time Chili Bowl A-Main starter first cut his teeth at the Tulsa Shootout with six top-10 finishes in 13 micro features inside the Expo. He’s set for triple duty next week with hopes of topping his career-best of second from Outlaw Non-Wing in 2017.
