Chili Bowl Ride Up For Grabs This Weekend
Chili Bowl Ride Up For Grabs This Weekend
The winner of Saturday's KKM Giveback Classic will earn a ride with Keith Kunz Motorsports at the 2022 Chili Bowl Nationals.
Three nights of racing are set to go live this weekend at Port City Raceway in Tulsa, Okla. with the winner getting a shot at a top-of-the-line ride with Keith Kunz Motorsports at the 36th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire.
Put on by eight-time Chili Bowl Owner Champion Keith Kunz, the KKM Giveback Classic presented by MPI takes place October 21, 22, and 23.
While drivers are vying for a potential ride in one of Keith’s cars at the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire, happening January 10-15, 2022, at the SageNet Center, they’ll have to earn it by winning the Outlaw Micro A-Feature on Saturday night.
No easy task; there are currently 70 drivers pre-entered from across the United States.
“I’ve been in this sport for a long time, and to put on an event like this that centers around winning a ride in one of our KKM cars at the Chili Bowl, it’s going to be fun to see, especially being in Tulsa this year,” stated event founder, Keith Kunz.
Originally a Karting event, the first KKM Giveback Classic was held in 2018. Switching to a Non-Wing Micro event in 2020, the race was held at North Carolina’s Millbridge Speedway, with the win going to Pennsylvania’s Brian Carber. For the 2021 edition, the event will feature POWRi 600cc Outlaw Non-Wing Micros, with the winner having two options.
Option One: Take $15,000
Option Two: Take $5,000, and a ride at the Chili Bowl Nationals with Keith Kunz Motorsports
“If you get a chance to drive for Keith [Kunz] at the Chili Bowl, you don’t turn that down,” said Chili Bowl co-founder Emmett Hahn.
“Keith has been coming to the Chili Bowl since day one, and there isn’t many that can say they won it once as a car owner, much less twice, and he’s done it eight times. Him moving this race to Port [City Raceway], it’s going to be a fight. You look at the drivers who have been successful at the Chili Bowl and even the Tulsa Shootout, and you can trace a lot of laps back to Port.”
The event will also feature the Lucas Oil National Open Wheel 600 Series presented by Hi-Plains Building Division sanctioning the Restricted division. Featuring nearly 50 drivers ages 8-16, the winner of the Restricted A-Feature will take home $3,000. The choice of the KKM ride is for the Outlaw Micro winner only.
