Double The Fun For Some At USAC Nationals
A handful of open-wheel stars will be pulling double duty with Midgets and Sprint Cars during the USAC Nationals at Huset's Speedway.
Many of the country's top open-wheel stars will be able to have double the fun this weekend during the inaugural USAC Nationals at Huset's Speedway. The event will feature two nights of preliminary racing on Friday and Saturday, leading into $20,000-to-win races for both the USAC National Sprint Cars and USAC National Midgets on Sunday.
Based on the current entry lists for the event, 10 drivers are planning to compete in both divisions during the event.
While it's not unprecedented to see Midgets and Sprint Cars competing at the same event, three consecutive nights of doubleheader events at the same venue is something that's never been done in USAC's 65-year history.
Justin Grant and Kevin Thomas, Jr. -- who have alternated victories on the USAC National Sprint Car circuit over the last five races -- are among the drivers pulling double duty this weekend. Thomas currently trails Brady Bacon by 44 in the Sprint Car championship battle, with Grant only seven points behind Thomas.
Speaking of Bacon, the three-time USAC Sprint Car National champion will be pulling double-duty by competing in the USAC National Midget Series main event.
Defending USAC National Midget Series champion Chris Windom will also join in on the double-duty fun.
Additional stars competing in both races include fan favorite "T-Mex" Thomas Messeraull, former USAC Midget champion Tanner Thorson and "J-Mac" Jason McDougal.
Colorado native Carson Garrett and Kansas City driver Chad Frewaldt also plan to tackle both races.
