Concerned about the broad availability of specific-sized tires for next week's Double Dreams, Eldora Speedway on Thursday announced restrictions on tire usage during the lucrative June 9-12 Super Late Model competition in Rossburg, Ohio.

Teams will be allowed five tires from time trials through the 25-lap preliminary features on Wednesday and Friday. For Thursday and Saturday's programs, teams are allowed five tires for heats, consolation and scramble races but can use new tires for the 100-lap features.

The track's decision amid tire inventory concerns, made in consultation with DIRTcar Racing officials along with Hoosier Tire and Hoosier Tire Midwest, was made "to ensure all competitors have fair and equitable access to the most-commonly used sizes of the mandated Hoosier LM-20 and LM-40 compound tires," according to the track's rules bulletin.

"It's better to be safe than sorry (when) you're putting on two Dreams," Eldora promoter and general manager Roger Slack told DirtonDirt.com regarding the lucrative weekend that carries total purses of more than $790,000. "It's an opportunity for us to take control of the situation and ensure that we've got the best show possible with as many racers possible and, at the same time, ensure some supply for other tracks and series and events in the next weeks."

The tire rule for the 26th and 27th Dreams allows for the softer LM-20 tires on the front wheels and left-rear corner. Drivers are allowed the choice of two tires for the right-rear — an LM-20 or harder LM-40.

If one of the team's five marked tires for competition is damaged, flattened or punctured, a similar used tire approved by officials can be substituted without penalty (brand new replacement tires will require drivers to start in the rear of the following event).

“With each passing weekend of strong sales, inventory levels continue to tighten,” Shanon Rush, Hoosier’s dirt oval product manager, told DirtonDirt.com. “We still have a long way to go in the Dirt Late Model season and want every race to go off as planned. However, if we don’t take some preventative steps now, the situation will only get worse as the months progress. Roger was gracious enough to embrace this challenge directly and modify his tire rule for the Dream weekend.

"We truly appreciate the effort and cooperation of Eldora Speedway and World Racing Group to adjust the tire rule on such short notice to ensure all competitors have an adequate supply of tires.”
