Seavey a Potential Hoosier Hundred Rookie Winner?
Seavey a Potential Hoosier Hundred Rookie Winner?
After an impressive USAC Silver Crown debut, Logan Seavey now aims to become one of the rare "Rookie" winners of the 2020 Hoosier Hundred.
Logan Seavey has been working his way into different racing series in the last few years running a variety of equipment in search of the big break in his career. Seavey is a past USAC and POWRI midget champion, has been a winner in sprint cars and has even found victory lane in the ARCA Menard’s stock car series.
One ride that he had not secured was a ride in the USAC Silver Crown Series. He checked that off his bucket list at Selinsgrove with a 10th place finish for the new Prestige Worldwide effort. If the stars align, Seavey will make his Hoosier Hundred debut on Sunday night, August 23, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds with a chance to become one of the few rookie winners at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
Seavey took the 2017 POWRI championship as a rookie, then the following season, as a rookie in the USAC midgets, racing for midget owner Keith Kunz, he became the third rookie in series history to claim the USAC midget crown. He also made one NASCAR Camping World Truck start in 2018 for Kyle Busch Motorsports. Seavey led 53 laps of the Mudsummer Classic at Eldora before a late race caution and the overtime restart shuffled him back to 8th. Seavey has also managed to find rides in USAC and World of Outlaws sprint cars as well.
August 23 would not be the first time Logan Seavey has driven on one of the unique mile dirt tracks. At age 21 in 2018, he won the General Tire Grabber 100 ARCA stock car event on the Magic Mile at Du Quoin, again as a rookie. And in the ARCA Allen Crowe 100 at Springfield last year Seavey qualified on the pole and led before finishing 4th, after finishing 3rd at Springfield in 2018.
Logan Seavey has shown the ability to adapt, be fast and win no matter the car or the track despite the fact that he just turned 23. He qualified 6th at Selinsgrove and his car lasted 73.75 of the 74 lap distance, before a flat right rear tire on the final corner of the final lap dropped him from a surefire fourth-place result to 10th in his debut run in the Bill Holland Classic.
A run on one of the mile tracks in the big cars is considerably different and there will be several questions heading into his Hoosier Hundred debut. How will he adapt on the larger track with a car that weighs half as much as the stock cars he’s driven, but with tires twice as wide? Will he be able to adjust to the 500 pounds of fuel sitting behind him at the start and then burning off during the grind? Can he keep the tires under him for the entire distance and save some tread for the end?
Look for Logan Seavey and Prestige to answer those questions Sunday night August 23. Practice for the 65th Hoosier Hundred starts at 4 p.m. EDT, with qualifications at 5:15, the last chance race at 7:15 and the Hoosier Hundred at 8 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.usactickets.com.
The event, a promotion of Track Enterprises, will be held with strict policing of head count limits and sanitation guidelines in accordance with the CDC and state and local policies. Attendees are required to wear masks upon entry.
