Ahead of Memorial Day weekend action at Legit Speedway Park, as Late Models return to West Plains, Mo., Andy Savary digs deep in revisiting the 17 Show-Me 100s held at the crown jewel's original home from 1993-’09:

Winners

Scott Bloomquist (1995, '03, '04, '05 and '08) was the winningest Show-Me 100 driver at West Plains (Mo.) Motor Speedway, followed with three victories apiece by Billy Moyer (1993, '94 and ’96) and Wendell Wallace (2002, '06 and ’07). Freddy Smith had two victories (1998, ’01) while the drivers with a single victory were Rick Aukland, Brian Birkhofer, Ray Cook and Terry Phillips.

Top-fives

Bloomquist finished among the top five an astounding 13 times in its West Plains era. Moyer was second to Bloomquist with nine top-five finishes, while Wendell Wallace recorded eight and Freddy Smith had five. In total, 30 drivers posted at least one top-five finish; 19 had multiple top-fives.

Lap leaders

Nineteen drivers led Show-Me 100 feature laps at West Plains, topped by Scott Bloomquist, who recorded laps led in six different features. Billy Moyer owned the next-best mark leading in five features (including each of the first four from 1993-'96) and also topped all drivers with 295 total laps led in Show-Me 100 action at West Plains. Completing the top five were Bloomquist (285 laps), Wendell Wallace (268), Freddy Smith (185) and Terry Phillips (165).

Lead changes

Eleven of 17 Show-Me 100s contested at West Plains saw multiple leaders with six flag-to-flag victors. Five races included at least four lead changes (the single-race record of five occurred three times in 1993, '96 and '00) and the 1995 race had five different drivers take turns out front (the most for any feature). Five of the first eight Show-Me 100s were not decided until lap 62 or beyond and the winning pass happened after lap 90 twice, first in 2000 and again 2008 when Bloomquist overtook Jimmy Mars and led only the final seven circuits, the fewest laps led by any winner.

Fast times

In the final 11 Show-Me 100s at West Plains, 10 drivers set fast time. Overall, 14 drivers topped qualifying in 17 West Plains events. The three drivers with multiple quick time honors: Scott Bloomquist, Dale McDowell and Billy Moyer, whose 14-second flat time in ’95 was the quickest in race history at West Plains.

Heat winners

Forty-eight drivers won 102 heat races with 21 claiming multiple wins in the race's West Plains era. Wendell Wallace topped all drivers with nine heat victories followed by Scott Bloomquist (seven) and six apiece for Billy Moyer, Terry Phillips and Freddy Smith.

Car counts

West Plains had an average of about 95 cars for its Show-Me 100s, with a high of 128 in ’99 and a low of 67 for the final West Plains event in ’09. The Show-Me eclipsed the 100-car barrier at least seven times.

Purses

The Show-Me 100's record winner's purse of $42,000 came in 2008 at West Plains. The feature, which was won by Scott Bloomquist, also paid $4,200 to start that year, another record. The Show-Me 100 paid at least $25,000 to win and $1,500 to start in every season it was contested at West Plains. The race paid $30,000-to-win or more from 1994-2005 and eclipsed $40,000 from 2006-’09.

Miscellaneous

• Two drivers started every Show-Me 100 contested at West Plains: Scott Bloomquist and Wendell Wallace.
• The 1997 winner and a three-time top-five finisher, Rick Aukland started eight Show-Me 100 features at West Plains and remains the lone North Dakota driver to ever appear in the race.
• From 1994-1996 and again in 1998, Show-Me 100 preliminary action included both six heat races and six consolation races.
• The Show-Me 100 ran under the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series banner in only its final season at West Plains (2009).
• The final race at West Plains in 2009 saw Brian Birkhofer and Jimmy Mars record a 1-2 finish while piloting the only two M-B Customs chassis in the field.
• Two of the race's most decorated drivers, Scott Bloomquist and Billy Moyer finished 1-2 in three different Show-Me 100s at West Plains. Moyer got the best of Bloomquist in 1994 and 1996, while Bloomquist came out on top in 2004.
• Arkansas drivers finished 1-2 in both the 2006 and 2007 Show-Me 100s, including a Batesville sweep for Wendell Wallace and Billy Moyer in '07. No other state swept the top two positions in any of the other 15 West Plains runnings.
• A Tennessee driver finished among the Show-Me 100's top five in every edition at West Plains with the exception of 2007, when sixth-finishing Jimmy Owens was the top Volunteer driver.
