Super DIRTcar Series Slide South For DIRTcar Nationals
It’s that time of year where the Big Block Modifieds head south to Volusia Speedway Park to kick off a new season with DIRTcar Nationals.
It’s that time of year again where the Big Block Modifieds head south to Volusia Speedway Park to kick off a new season with the highly anticipated DIRTcar Nationals. The high-banked, half-mile dirt track will once again host the Super DIRTcar Series during the second half of DIRTcar Nationals, February 12-16.
For the first time, the Super DIRTcar Series will run an extra night this year, making five consecutive nights of ground pounding Big Block Modified action.
Super DIRTcar Series veteran, Brett Hearn, currently holds the most Big Block Modified feature wins (10) at Volusia Speedway Park. Hearn’s last Volusia victory came on the final night of 2017. With nine victories and a championship in 2018, Hearn is looking to keep last years momentum rolling into this years DIRTcar Nationals.
Defending Super DIRTcar Series champ, Matt Sheppard, will be in the fight once again, but this time, Sheppard will have the opportunity to not only tie Hearn for the most DIRTcar National victories but possibly surpass it. Sheppard currently sits second in the win list at Volusia Speedway Park, just three victories shy of Hearn. Will Sheppard go on a tear during the 2019 Nationals or will Hearn hold claim to his title?
Another hot shoe looking to throw his name into the mix once again will be no other than Stewart Friesen. With his busy NASCAR truck schedule, Friesen hasn’t been able to commit to a full week at Volusia in a while. His last win came back in 2015. Though Friesen hasn’t won a gator in four years, he is no stranger to Volusia Speedway Parks victory lane. Friesen currently holds six DIRTcar National wins at the fast half-mile. As of now, Friesen will be competing in four of the five DIRTcar National races.
The 2018 DIRTcar Nationals saw two outsiders steal the show, three out of the four nights. Picking up the first night of 2018 and his first ever gator trophy was Horseheads, NY native, Tyler Siri. The 2018 DIRTcar Nationals Champion, Tim McCreadie stole the show twice and went on to clinch his first career Big Block Modified DIRTcar Nationals Championship. ‘Super’ Matt Sheppard was the only Super DIRTcar Series regular to make his way onto the big stage that week.
With a stacked field and incredible talent, the DIRTcar Nationals makes for a unique atmosphere like no other Super DIRTcar Series event. Not only will the Super DIRTcar Series stars and cars be on hand, but several invaders will also make the trek south to compete against the best of the best.
Everyone knows the best wheelmen in the business all head south for the winter to compete for bragging rights and take home the DIRTcar Nationals title.
Last year saw 40+ Big Block Modifieds travel southbound and compete at the famed DIRTcar Nationals. This year will see a diverse mix of drivers once again tow south and throw their hat into the mix in hopes to wrestle the gator and come home the champion.
