Speedway, Indiana (January 28, 2019)………Two USAC legends from two distinctly different disciplines, Levi Jones and John Mahoney, were honored last Sunday with their inductions into the HARF (Hoosier Auto Racing Fans) Hall of Fame.
Jones, of Olney, Ill., made his initial mark behind the wheel in USAC’s Silver Crown, National Sprint and National Midget divisions. His 28 career sprint wins rank 14th on the all-time list while his five series championships with the series are unprecedented, reaching the top of the standings in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
USAC Silver Crown titles came in back-to-back seasons in 2010 and 2011 with three wins, including the 2013 “Hoosier Hundred” at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Jones even collected USAC National Midget victories. His most recent start came in the 2015 “Ted Horn 100” at the Du Quoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds before transitioning into an officiating role with USAC as National Series Coordinator, contributing greatly to the sport on and off the track.
Mahoney did his work behind the camera lens as the go-to photographer for the majority of USAC’s greatest moments over the last five decades. Mahoney’s iconic photographs have been featured practically everywhere from programs to T-Shirts to yearbooks to Sprint Car pictorials and essential books such as “Full Tilt” and “Modern Thunder,” just to name a few. He even served as USAC Silver Crown coordinator during the 1984 season, dedicating much of his life to the documenting and preserving auto racing history.
USAC congratulates Levi Jones and John Mahoney on their incredible careers and achievements, which they are still currently in the midst of with no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
