The 2024 season marked a brand new chapter in Brad Sweet’s life, but that didn’t mean the success would stop.

After five consecutive championships with the World of Outlaws from 2019-23, “The Big Cat” took his winning ways to Kubota High Limit Racing in 2024 and promptly delivered 10 wins and a sixth consecutive national championship aboard the Kasey Kahne Racing, NAPA Auto Parts #49.

The 38-year-old native of Grass Valley, California is back to defend that title in 2025, but things will look a bit different. One of the top stories of the off-season was that longtime crew chief Eric Prutzman would move to Kasey Kahne’s #9, forcing Sweet to find a new wrench for the first time since 2017. That hire came within the program of his #49 with car chief Tye Wolfgang earning the promotion to crew chief in 2025.

“It’ll be fun to work with such a young guy like Tye,” Sweet said on the shuffle. “He’s earned it through a lot of hard work, and I think I have some experience that can help him progress along the way. There might be some times in the year where we miss Eric’s knowledge, though. It was only week at one track, but I left Volusia feeling optimistic after our results. It’s to be determined how it all goes, but I’m confident we’ll be just fine.”

That change will be on full display when the 2025 Kubota High Limit Racing campaign begins at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Thursday and Saturday, March 13 & 15. It’s the beginning of a new west coast swing to start the season, which will see Sweet encounter eight new tracks for the first time.

“There’s a ton of things I’m looking forward to with the schedule we’ve got, this new west coast swing in the spring is one of them,” he noted. “I’m excited to check out the Casa Grande [Central Arizona] track and Amarillo [Route 66] early in the year. I can’t wait to get back into Wisconsin with those races at 141 and Red Cedar in June. Another one I’ve heard a lot about is Path Valley in Pennsylvania. I’ve been to so many dirt tracks, the fact that I get to go to eight new ones this year is wild. Hope to meet some new fans at these new places.”

When it’s all said and done and Sweet’s name is announced in the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, he’ll certainly go down as one of the best “point racers” in history. He attributes that not to his driving abilities nor the car, but his mental mindset.

“You have to understand that a championship is this huge body of work, it’s not just one night or one moment,” he explained. “You have to pick and choose your battles. I feel like I have a good ability to distinguish when the time is to push or when to let it go. It probably hurts me in the win column, but when you’re going up and down the road with all these crew guys it’s important to roll the car in the trailer. You have to keep morale up after a bad night and you have to rebound as soon as possible. This is a momentum and confidence sport. Those tough moments are going to come, it’s about how you recover from the adversity. That’s something I think we’ve solved as team.”

Although he topped the 2024 title by 297-markers, “The Big Cat” doesn’t expect an easy fight in 2025 with such a stout roster of High Limit Racing full-timers chasing him.

“I think Tyler Courtney and Rico Abreu are the obvious ones,” he said of his championship contenders. “Then you have guys like Brent Marks and Aaron Reutzel who I can absolutely see in the thick of things. Justin Peck and Spencer Bayston landed in strong, new rides and plus Corey Day and Kyle Larson will still bounce in and out, so that will make the battle for some wins fun. There are some good guys coming back like Thorson, Kahne, Crouch, and we’ve got a great rookie class that will be fun to follow between Chase Randall, Daison Pursley, Danny Sams, and Sye Lynch.”

One advantage Sweet has is the comfort of returning to so many tracks he’s already won at, in fact, there’s 15 on the schedule. More importantly, he’s experienced victory at the four tracks which host the four highest-paying races with Kubota High Limit Racing – Port Royal Speedway, Eldora Speedway, Silver Dollar Speedway, and Skagit Speedway.

His 2025 campaign with Kubota High Limit Racing will begin at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this week on Thursday, March 13 before a $25,000-to-win event on Saturday, March 15. The 60-race tour will conclude with All-In Championship Weekend at Texas Motor Speedway on October 17 and 18.
