Robert Bell might not be a name you’ll hear on the podium, but he’s more than cemented himself as a Chili Bowl legend.

Bell has never won the Golden Driller Trophy, and he typically doesn’t place very high in the races. But he has continued to show up to Tulsa for years, working on his car and racing all on his own.

“When I go out there, I’m gonna do the best I can with the best I’ve got,” Bell said.

Bell first raced in the Chili Bowl Nationals back in 2015, appearing every year since. He won a heat race in 2017, marking the one and only time he won a race in the Chili Bowl. 

At 61 years old, Bell has struggled with health issues in previous years. But these haven’t stopped Bell from doing what he loves, racing to no end.

How Did Robert Bell Do Wednesday Night At The 2025 Chili Bowl Nationals?

Bell fought hard to compete in the Wednesday's preliminary races, but his efforts resulted in a DNF. A fuel pump issue prior to his heat race forced him to miss the race, relegating him to a C-Main. Another mechanical issue (brakes) ended his C-Main run early. 

Bell hasn't given up yet, as he will make an appearance early Saturday morning in the Chili Bowl’s famed alphabet soup, where he will once again give it the best he's got.
