A nearly year-long battle for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series championship that began January 15 in Georgia came to a conclusion on October 19 in Ohio. Four drivers entered the Chase for the Championship with a shot at the title, but only one of those drivers emerged from the finale at Eldora Speedway as the 2024 series champion.

Ricky Thornton Jr. used a third-place finish in the Dirt Track World Championship to score his first career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series championship. RTJ claimed his first championship one year after a dominating 2023 season that ended with Thornton coming up short in a winner-take-all championship finale.

In 2024, with a revised championship format that consisted of a five-race playoff and a strong showing in the season finale, Thornton took care of unfinished business.

Thornton entered the season finale with a 50-point advantage over Jonathan Davenport and Devin Moran. He needed to finish sixth or better in the Dirt Track World Championship to secure the championship, but he beat both of his counterparts to the checkered flag to put an exclamation point on his championship season.

Moran charged from the 18th starting position to a fourth-place finish to finish as the championship runner-up for the second straight season.

Davenport took the lead on lap 64 of the 100-lap finale but suffered an engine failure shortly after, relegating him to an 18th-place finish in the race and a third-place finish in the championship standings.

McCreadie, who entered the race without a mathematical shot at winning the championship, finished second in the race and fourth in the championship standings.
