The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series have canceled East Bay Raceway Park's Oct. 10-12 finale and rescheduled the Jackson 100.
Heavy rainfall from Hurricane Helene and an unfavorable forecast have prompted officials from the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and East Bay Raceway Park to cancel Oct. 10-12’s event at the Gibsonton, Fla., oval.
In turn, the Jackson 100 at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway will take East Bay’s place on the Lucas Oil Series schedule with Oct. 11’s 40-lap, $10,000-to-win third annual C.J. Rayburn Memorial and Oct. 12’s 100-lap, $50,000-to-win 45th annual Jackson 100.
Both are full points events and are rescheduled dates from Sept. 27-28’s rained out Jackson 100.
The Lucas Oil Series Big River Steel Chase for the Championship now consists of Oct. 4-5’s Pittsburgher at Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, Oct. 11-12’s Jackson 100 and Oct. 18-19’s Dirt Track World Championship at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway.
East Bay’s tripleheader weekend dubbed The Grand Finale was set to award $50,000-to-win in the finale while serve as the last-ever events at the 3/8-mile oval that’s expected to close down at the end of the 2024 season.
East Bay promoter Al Varnadore said in a press release “this is not the decision that we wanted to make” but “it is necessary in consideration of all the fans and teams that have to travel great distances.”
“It’s devastating for us; we wanted to go out with a bang,” Varnadore added. “Thank you to all the great fans, teams, and staff for their many years of support.”
