Don O'Neal To Return To Driver's Seat At Brownstown Speedway
Don O'Neal of Martsinville, Ind., is slated to make his racing return during Castrol FloRacing Night in America at Brownstown Speedway on Wednesday night.
Making a brief return from retirement, former Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion Don O’Neal of Martinsville, Ind., aims to make his first feature start in exactly four years at Wednesday’s Castrol FloRacing Night in America event at Brownstown Speedway (Ind.), the team told DirtonDirt.com.
The 60-year-old Hall of Fame driver is scheduled to pilot a No. 71 MasterSbilt Race Cars house car provided by the McCarter brothers of East Tennessee with MasterSbilt co-founder Tader Masters and crew assisting at the quarter-mile oval where O’Neal is among the winningest drivers.
O’Neal, whose 23-year-old son Hudson O’Neal will also be in competition, has tested at Brownstown and Paragon Speedway. MasterSbilt was putting the finishing touches on the car’s vintage wrap Tuesday with O’Neal’s nickname “The Real Deal” within his number and fanned out playing cards spelling O-N-E-A-L above the left-rear wheelwell.
O’Neal, fourth all-time on the Lucas Oil Series victories list with 46, won the 2014 series title. His final full-time season on the series was 2019 and he made a few starts in 2020, including his last feature start Sept. 25, 2020, in a Jackson 100 preliminary at Brownstown. He failed to make the starting field for the next day’s Jackson 100.
O’Neal is a four-time Jackson 100 winner and two-time champion at the Jackson County Fairgrounds oval.
Wednesday night's Castrol FloRacing Night in America event will be streamed live on FloRacing for those unable to attend in person. If you're not already a FloRacing subscriber, click here to sign up today.
