Who Are The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Big Four?
Ricky Thornton Jr., Jonathan Davenport and Devin Moran are all comfortably locked into the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series championship four entering the final "regular season" event at Knoxville Raceway.
The big question mark and storyline entering the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals is: who will grab the fourth and final spot to battle for a championship?
Defending Lucas Oil champion Hudson O'Neal currently holds the advantage by 15 points over two-time series champion Tim McCreadie.
A win by either driver would lock themselves into the "Big Four" to battle for the championship. After that, the scenarios become more complicated.
O'Neal holds the tiebreaker over McCreadie as a result of having more win in events that points were earned.
O'Neal can clinch his spot in the "Big Four" by:
- Winning the race or finishing better than McCreadie
- Finishing within one position of McCreadie if both drivers finish in the top four but neither win the race
- Finishing within two positions of McCreadie if McCreadie finishes third or worse
- Finishing within three positions of McCreadie if McCreade finishes between fourth and 17th
- Starting the A-Main if McCreadie finishes 18th or worse
McCreadie can clinch his spot in the "Big Four" by:
- Winning the race
- Finishing second if O'Neal finishes fourth or worse
- Finishing third if O'Neal finishes sixth or worse
- Finishing four positions ahead of O'Neal if McCreadie finishes between fourth and 17th
