It was the second night of 70th Gold Cup Race of Champions race week Friday for the Kubota High Limit Racing tour, which hosted the second of two prelims ahead of Saturday's $100,070-to-win Crown Jewel at California's Silver Dollar Speedway.

Tanner Thorson outdueled Rico Abreu for his first-ever High Limit victory, albeit a split field, as the Broken Arrow, Okla., driver led the final four laps to capture the second Gold Cup prelim.

Abreu, who led the opening 26 of 30 laps, finished second, 0.487 seconds behind Thorson. California natives D.J. Netto and Cory Eliason finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Thorson and Abreu join Thursday's prelim drivers Corey Day and Spencer Bayston in Saturday's dash.
