Dirt track legend Scott Bloomquist was killed in a plane crash near his home in Mooresburg, Tennessee on Friday morning. Local authorities confirmed that Bloomquist was "involved in a small aircraft crash." Bloomquist was 60 years old.

The news was confirmed by Missouri racer and close Bloomquist friend Reid Millard, a funeral director who announced the tragedy in a Facebook post after receiving a call from Bloomquist’s mother Georgie.

According to Millard’s post, the crash occurred around 7:15 a.m. EST near Bloomquist’s home. The local fire department and law enforcement were still on the scene several hours later.

Bloomquist, a Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer, will go down as one of the greatest Dirt Late Model drivers of all-time with a resume that is nearly unmatched.

A winner of over 600 races whose last start came on Aug. 3 in the USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., Bloomquist is survived by his daughter, Ariel, his parents and a sister.

In addition to his on-track success, Bloomquist had a larger than life personality that sparked the emotions of Dirt Late Model fans all over the country.

In recent years, Bloomquist had battled a variety of injuries including a leg injury suffered in a motorcycle crash, prostate cancer, a foot injury suffered prior to the 2023 Dirt Track World Championship at Eldora Speedway and shoulder surgery prior to the 2024 season. He was also recently hospitalized following a "bizarre experience" with a horsefly bite

Despite all of this, Bloomquist remained motivated to get back to victory lane at Dirt Late Model racing's biggest events.

Bloomquist and his father enjoyed flying vintage airplanes and have a collection that was showcased during the Road to Eldora in 2022.

FloRacing will continue to monitor this story and provide updates as they become available.
