Ricky Thornton Jr. Finds A Ride For Castrol FloRacing Night At Lincoln
Ricky Thornton Jr. announced that he'll be driving Stevie Sheppard’s No. 5S during Monday's Castrol FloRacing Night in America race at Lincoln Speedway.
It didn't take Ricky Thornton Jr. long to find a new ride... at least for one race. Following the announcement of his split with SSI Motorsports on Sunday evening, RTJ has announced that he'll be driving Stevie Sheppard's No. 5S during Monday's Castrol FloRacing Night in America event at Lincoln Speedway.
Thornton indicated in a Facebook post on Monday afternoon that he was already "at the Sheppard Racing compound now getting his seat bolted in."
The post went on to indicate that the Sheppard family offered up the car within minutes of calling them to share the news that he was no longer driving the SSI Motorsports No. 20.
"Their generosity and willingness to get this car ready in less than 24 hours will never be forgotten," Thornton said. "They are incredible people and I hope some day we can repay the favor. Hope for some good runs for Ricky & Brandon both tonight!"
Thornton enters Monday's Castrol FloRacing Night in America race at Lincoln Speedway as the current series points leader after winning a wild season opener at Macon Speedway on May 28.
Monday's race at Lincoln Speedway, the second race of the mini-series season, will be streamed live on FloRacing.
RTJ revealed Sunday night that he was looking for a new ride after splitting with SSI Motorsports, a pairing that’s won more than 60 races with over four seasons including last year's $1 million season with 34 victories.
“Todd (Burns) and I met today, and he expressed the he felt the last few months hadn’t been going in the direction that he envisioned for SSI Motorsports and has decided to hire another driver,” Thornton said in a news release.
FloRacing will continue to provide updates in regards to Thornton's future plans as they become known and available.
