Kyle Larson rewrote history books in the most dramatic of ways Sunday night at Kansas Speedway.

Squeezing out a 0.001-second victory at the 1.5-mile oval in America's Heartland versus Chris Buescher, the Elk Grove, Calif., superstar now owns the closest margin in victory in NASCAR Cup history, breaking a 21-year-old record previously and famously held by Ricky Craven in his legendary finish over Kurt Busch at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway on March 16, 2003.

The Craven vs. Busch finish was decided by 0.002 of a second and has not only been surpassed by a move from Larson he often executes in a dirt Sprint Car — holding his car wide open around the top in hopes of powering around whomever is ahead — but has now been rivaled twice this year.

For those who need remembering, Daniel Suarez pulled out a 0.003-second victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway in a three-wide over Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch in February.

The victory kick starts a momentous month of May for Larson, who's set to begin Indianapolis 500 practice on May 14 in preparation for May 26's 108th running of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.
